Description
The Linksys Phone Adapter enables high-quality feature-rich telephone service through your cable or DSL Internet connection. Just plug it into your home Router or Gateway and use the two standard telephone jacks to connect your existing phones or fax machines. Each phone jack operates independently, with separate phone service and phone numbers -- like having two phone lines. With an appropriate Internet telephone service provider, you'll get clear telephone reception and reliable fax connections, even while using the Internet at the same time for normal data operations.

Strengths: small and compact, inexpensive
Weakness: set up and cust service and kinda techy for the layman, a couple seconds delay when talking.
Althought the price is good, the setup is easy unless you want to use this with a provider other than vonage. It can be done, but it is quite geeky and you really need to know what you are doing. Some site provide help. This saved me a ton of money as I call to the UK a lot.
Strengths: Clear sound, cheaper then the lanline, I haven't had a problem with it yet.
Weakness: All the phones need to be connected to the Adapter. Not good for a large house for the wiring, I tring to find one that is wireless if it possible. It is a bit bulky.
This item will end up saving me 30 dollars a month which is great. The adapter is quite bulky So it doesn't fit nicely under too many items. All my wiring for my DSL/Phone is now taking up 2 surge protecters.
Strengths: Small, price is good after rebate
Weakness: Only designed for Vonage service.
First of all, if you are not (or do not intend to be) a Vonage service customer, don't go for it since it is only useful for this service. But it does good job, and the net price for it is cheap, of course you need to pay Vonage service fee.
Strengths: Super easy to set up, best price, got mine free after rebate, sounds good
Weakness: Customer service is lacking, sound could be better
I got 2 of these and sent one to distant family in Italy (Catania, Sicily) and I was talking to them in no time at all. There are times when audio would drop and then just rise to a very loud level and then taper off to normal. Not sure if it's my end or the Sicilian end....but I have a pretty good idea. Other than talking to family overseas, the call forward feature and voicemail is pretty good...
Strengths: Good Adapter, Compact and looks nice. Sound Quality is good
Weakness: Adapter base that holds the adapter in upright position doesn't fit very well with the adapter
Sound quality and vonage features are great. It is very economical. I like the call forward feature and voicemail access via web. Drawbacks of using Vonage - 1) Few times caller ID doesn't display and I have to "reboot" phone adapter to get back caller ID on my phone. 2) Vonage customer support isn't that good. You will need to wait for at least 30-40 minutes before you could get next customer...
Strengths: Could be unlocked to use with any VOIP service providers
Weakness: Cannot send or receive fax from the phone ports of PAP2
The Linksys PAP2 could be unlocked and set for use with different VOIP service providers. Setting the PAP2 the first time is challenging but once you understand the the internal commands and setups of PAP2, it is very simple since you don't have to change them a whole lot. When PAP2 is up running you will not have to change it again unless you change VOIP service providers. Sending and receiving...
Strengths: small and very easy to install and use. Good voice quality.
Weakness: The base of the adapter can not hold the adapter firmly.
This is a good phone adapter for VOIP.Its price is also reasonable. Adapter is small and easy to install and use. Just plug in your router and phone line, set up the vonage account information then you would be ready to make phone calls all over the world at a very low cost. But the Vonage customer serives is not that good. Anyway, the product itself is recommended.
Strengths: Easy install, light weight.
Weakness: Costly at $59.99 plus tax.
I love this thing. I could easily install it and connect it to the VOIP provider. Its very light and commnunicates well with my PC and 3COM router/gateway. Also the good thing about this adaptor is it can be placed vertically which makes more sense if space is limited on the tower. The voice is crystal clear except for rare noises.
Strengths: Easy to install, easy to setup
Weakness: doesn't have built in router capabilities
PAP2 adapter made it easy to transition to VoIP. The product is reliable and easy to set up. I would prefer having an all in one adapter, but this will do. Easy to integrate into current setup

BEWARE - locked to Vonage
Strengths: Great quality, easy to set up
Weakness: Vonage only
The way this device is marketed here does not make it clear that this device locks you into using the Vonage VOIP service. While Vonage are good at marketing, they are priced WAY ABOVE other Voice Over IP services, most of whom don't have any monthly fee just a per-minute fee as low as $0.01/min (some are even free). WARNING - this device is LOCKED to Vonage If you want to use those other cheaper...
