This is a great option if your cabling is limited; you can use one component cable set and provide signal from both your DVD and HD Sat Receiver to your HDTV. The price make its weaknesses easy to forget.
Strengths: Built-in scaler to upconvert any video input signal from RCA, s-video or component video ports to 720p/1080i video output through the RGB or DVI output connectors
Weakness: Bright display cannot be dimmed
Unlike the first generation Samsung SIR-T165 and the second generation Samsung SIR-T351 HDTV tuner, the third generation SIR-TS360 responds much faster when changing channels. In addition, it has DirectTV capability and a wonderful built-in scaler to upconvert any video input signal from RCA, S-video or component video ports to 720p/1080i video output signal at the RGB or DVI ports. A comparable...
Strengths: Price, fanless operation, RF remote capability, caller ID,
Weakness: caller ID, slow channel switching, built in games.
This receiver has just about every single video and audio connection available. You don't have to have a DirecTv account to use this unit as an OTA HDTV receiver, although some dealers will want you to sign some kind of agreement. It has a cool and informative front display which I did not mind the brightness, I use it as a nite-lite. There were very few things I disliked about this unit, but I...
Strengths: Easy instructions to hook up. Many ports.
Weakness: Clock not available when turned on.
This product is excellent. It has access to both sattelite and antenna. The remote control is easy to use and very versitle. It is slim line and fits easily into our entertainment unit.
Strengths: bright display
Weakness: Does not offer OTA/cable set up, does not change channel, no possible way to set the clock, will not play DVDs through component video. Where else do I begin?
I bought this unit used, only with a remote(which has done more than the unit). This unit not being hooked-up to DIRECTV HD has yet to produce a picture except a limited menu(DIRETV HD only). It will tell you it failed to pick up a satellite signal, get transponder power ratings, + signal strengths which mean nothing when it is not connected to a satellite. No where does it offer Off-The-Air...

Samsung SIR-TS360 Satellite Receiver
Strengths: HDTV Satellite/cable/off-air combo, dot-matrix display, DVI output, caller ID, 5 components universal remote
Weakness: No RF output, Bright standby display, DVI/HDCP only.
I purchased this HDTV receiver to replace my dated Panasonic one. This receiver is a three-in-one unit. It will display satellite (directv only), cable, and off-air channels when scanned, with a choice of DVI, component, S-Video, and composite outputs. No RF output however. The audio portion can be chosen from digital (optical/coax) or analog via RCA outputs. All the video and audio ouputs remain...
