Directv r15

Strengths: Power button

Weakness: Too many to name

Have had this unit for two weeks, have had to reset it four times manually (all that tech seems to know to fix any problems) and unit has reset itself four times. Has not recorded a few programs. Today was the kicker....unit reset itself while I was watching football and then I checked our to record list and everything was "to be announced" and at different times. I called customer support and...

4 week lifespan

Strengths: When it works I was happy with it.

Weakness: locks up, wont change channels, didnt record shows. Menus can be hard to use or find what your looking to do. Seems to be alot of unnecessary button pushing to do simple things.

We got at walmart for 99$ a little over a month ago and for about the first month it worked fine except a few bugs (some shows record all, even when set to first run only) but wasnt a big deal. But after a bout 3 weeks it got stuck, it would not change channels and would not play any recorded shows and it wasnt recording. You could bring up the menu or program guide, pick a new channel or a vod...

Thumbs down

Strengths: Looks Good

Weakness: Snail-like response time to remote control commands Just decides not to work sometimes

I made the switch to Directv from Dishnetwork because we moved and i wanted the NFL package. I've had it for about a month. A few days ago the box just started to freeze. Either it would freeze on a black screen or on a dvr'd program. The only solution is to unplug and plug it back in. I woke up this morning to a black screen. That makes 10 times in 4 days that i have had to reboot. I'm setting...

Junk

Strengths: not much

Weakness: glitchy, cumbersome menus and remote, bad manual

I guess I got spoiled with my Tivo R10. It was so simple to use that my 4 year old daughter could operate it. My R10 died and DirecTV sent me an "upgrade". I read the manual, plugged it in, and was very disapointed. The onscreen menus are a little complicated and the manual does not cover half of them. You have to play with this thing for quite a while to figure it out. You have to go through...

Improvement over the R10

Strengths: 90 minute buffer, maintains live tv window while navigating and programming, caller id, no loud chirping, easy to set recordings and episodes.

Weakness: takes a little time to learn new features, but they're great once you get them down.

After reading all the negative reviews I was beginning to think I bought piece of junk. To the contrary, I have an R10 and this is a more solid, superior unit with better hardware and features. A definite improvement. Have patience and you'll learn to love it.

DirecTV R-15 DVR is Terrible

Strengths: None

Weakness: Restarts itself, remote control unresponsive, rewind and fast forward do not work, flaw with software

It all began around June 16th. 2007. I was having a problem with my DirecTV dvr. It would restart itself in the middle of programs. So I made a call to DirecTV to try and fix this issue. After spending over 3 minutes just to get to an actual REAL person, an on hold for another couple of minutes a rep answered. They instructed me that the system would need to be reformatted which would erase...

At the risk of being redundant

Strengths: None

Weakness: You will lose your video at any random moment and not get it back; time display locks up; you have wasted your money

I usually dismiss the one cranky review of an item as being a fluke or written by a hard-to-please customer. Imagine my surprise when I decided to write a calm, coherent review of this (piece of trash) item that might not be dismissed. Why bother? It's all been said, I'm just adding my voice. DO NOT BUY THIS DVR. Ok, it's all been said before, I won't rant. Do not dismiss this as a fluke; I am...

It IS that bad!

Strengths: What strenghts? Ok, maybe the 90-minute buffer

Weakness: Too many to enumerate. Believe all the negative things said here.

Avoid this product at all cost. Hang on to your DirecTivo DVR, if you still can. Personally, I think DirecTV will lose customers because of this product. I for one, will terminate the service as soon as the 1-year contract is over. The inability to "swap" between two channels is a reason enough for me to hate this unit. It's a big waste to have it turned off until the user actually select to...

R15 is horrible. What were they thinking?

Strengths: 100hrs of record time (when operational)

Weakness: Poorly-engineered. Period.

If I had to guess, DirecTV management is well aware of their mistake with regard to their current DVR equipment provider. The equipment they use now, the R15, is simply horrible. I've been a customer of theirs for 3-4 years now, and was extremely happy with my original DVR (Phillips DSR704). Unfortunately, that hard drive died last fall, and I was forced to go with what DirecTV uses now-- the...

Come on X-Tivo users...give it a fair shot!

Strengths: New features not found on the Tivo.

Weakness: Maybe not as easy to use as a Tivo (at least for those who aren't willing to learn.)

I got my R15 yesterday, and much to my surprise had it up and running in less than half an hour (as compared to the hours and hours that it took for my Tivo). Sure, the remote is a little "busy", but after and evening of use, I find it not that much of a problem. The "tab" feature, where you can pinpoint certain areas in a recorded program is really cool, as well as the PIP function. The menu not...
