Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: Complete control of any device, Large LCD, macro ability, ability to "punch through" functions like volume control from your receiver to your DVD, awesome remote backlight that is cool looking too

Weakness: Does not hook up to a PC for programming if that matters to you (didn't to me)

I have been hassling with multiple remotes for years now. I guess that I had gotten somewhat used to it, although my wife never quite knew all of the "tricks" that I did. But the final straw came when I finally purchased a receiver for a home theater setup. Now I had to deal with getting my TV input to the correct setting (receiver did not perform any "up conversion" like some higher end models...

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: LEARNING; BACKLIT; CONTROLS UP TO 10 COMPONENTS.

Weakness: not a TOUCH SCREEN; some codes will not work, will have to learn them.

Although I only paid $70 for it, this remote looks, feels and performs like the $150 MSRP initially advertised for. It has a rubberlike texture which aids in holding and controlling it. The MX-500 comes with a diverse library of codes to control most A/V componets but it can also learn your remotes. It has a cool "negative" LCD display when the backlite button is pressed. The LCD screen, by the...

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: Comfortable! Easy to use. Lots and lots of hard buttons.

Weakness: Can't learn a couple of codes -- one of the less-important codes from my Pioneer elite receiver and also a code from my old Panasonic laserdic player. No PC interface.

On the whole, this is an unbelievably useful remote. I just bought a second one to use as a backup (literally -- I can save all my programming on it).

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: Well laid out, many codes programmed, easy to use & program

Weakness: Missing some codes, no PC interface to download new ones.

I really like this remote, but the true test is that my wife (who is not technically savvy) has been able to use it easily after a 10 minute training session. She exclaimed "wow, it can do that?" several times when I showed her the macro functions and the favorite channel buttons. This is replacing a "universal remote" of unknown brand that I've had for awhile but which never worked all that...

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: This remote has completely removed the necessity for any other remotes in the living room. I used to have seven remotes, now I have one and the macro functions allow me to do things that I couldn't.

Weakness: It requires a fair amount of planning to program it correctly, as when you wnat to move a button, you have to reprogram - buttons cannot be moved by the remote itself.

This remote has replaced the seven remotes that used to be on the coffee table. It can do everything they could, unlike normal universal remotes which often omit certain functions. This learning capability can not be underrated. Throw the remote's ability to learn macros (several actions with one button pushed) and everything becomes more convenient and user friendly. Now my girlfriend knows that...

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: Strong infrared signal, plenty of programmable buttons on the LCD, super clear screen, everything is programmable, macros are more configurable than other remotes

Weakness: Didn't have pre-program for my Denon receiver or Integra DVD player, but most remotes don't

I have been using a Marantz MK remote for some time. It has most of the features I want but it's heavy, the screen is a little hard to read, and I have to point it directly at the receiver to make it work. I had read a lot about this remote after trying some others and this one seemed to be the absolute best. Now that I've used it there's no doubt. When I first took it out of the box I was blown...

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: Outstanding design and interface

Weakness: No updated codes

All this love? Perhaps things have changed. My setup is fairly new. A Panasonic 34” wide screen TV, a Pioneer receiver, and a Pioneer DVD player worked almost instantly (like 10 minutes). On the other hand there didn’t seem to be a code for my Gateway DVD player. Ok no problem right? None of this would be a big deal IF they had updated codes on their website. Sadly they don’t! Overall...

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: Farily easy to program and does exactly what it claims to do. Macro functions are executed very well.

Weakness: The unit is a little large, but I welcome it as it replaces 5 other device remotes

Excellent product at a great price. After 5 minutes, my wife was able to use it with no problem because of the easy macro functions. I highly recommend this unit.

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: Esthetics; excellent LCD and backlighting; very powerful.

Weakness: Can't get it to learn my Sony RM-TP501 commands. Codes not ugradeable.

Upon taking the MX-500 out of the box I was very impressed with the quality of the mat black finish and the overall look and feel of the remote. It even came with 4 Duracell batteries instead of the normal cheap generic ones. It is a little large, but I guess it needs to be with the display and all of the hard buttons. The LCD display is so good you will rarely need the backlight (which is the...

Universal Remote Control Home Theater Master Remote...

Strengths: excellent for TV

Weakness: VCR setup was completly unsat

I chose a high-end remote because most universal remotes leave quite a bit to be desired. My TV remote was giving it up. Setting up the MX-500 for the TV (a sony) worked great! Everthing was going fine. Now it was time to set up the VCR. I still don't have it even close - dismal failure! I haven't even tried yet to set it up for the DVD; but, I don't have much faith. This sounds good; however, if...
