Quick Glance

Interfaces

Native Aspect Ratio The ratio between the width and height of the display screen. The typical standard ratio is 4:3 while widescreen is 16:9, 15:9, or 16:10.

Resolution Resolution is the number of pixels that make up an image - measured as width by height. For example, SVGA resolution is 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels high. More pixels per unit of an area, produce a higher resolution and create crisper images. For projectors the native resolution is given.

Projector Type The two main types are DLP and LCD. Digital Light Processing (DLP) is an all digital display. DLP technology uses an optical semiconductor, known as the Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD chip to recreate the source material. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) contain three separate LCD glass panels, one for red, green, and blue of the image signal being transfered to the projector. As the light passes through the LCD panels, individual pixels can be opened to allow light to pass or closed to block the light, this produces the image onto the screen. LCD's create more saturated colors and a sharper image than DLP, but this can also cause more pixellation. DLP's create higher contrast ratios and are generally more portable.

Brightness Brightness is measured in Lumens. The more light in the room or the bigger the venue and the further away you are setup, the brighter the lamp you would want. For your larger venues you would want at least 2000 Lumens.

Contrast Ratio Contrast is the ratio of whitest to blackest area within an image. Higher contrast ratios make for deeper blacks & richer colors. Contrast ratios typically range from 300:1 to as high as 3000:1.
