A safer way to keep your eyes on the road while...

Strengths: Excellent interface. Highly visible screen.

Weakness: Wireless RF modulator performance quality will vary based on other signals in whatever areas are being driven through.

This is a nice piece of gear. My 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Competition model came out before the car companies started putting Ipod adapters in as standard equipment. RF modulators have always been hit and miss with performance and I was hoping to get a directly-wired solution. I struggled for better than a month trying to get a wired, vehicle specific solution to work. It required...

iPod car connection

Strengths: Good design, user interface

Weakness: Too many wires; not supporting non-English characters

Harman Kardon Drive + Play is one of the best standalone iPod car kit (i.e. not integrated into car's audio control / display system). I especially like its controller, which mimics iPod's touch wheel and feels very solid. A minor downside is that since the controller and display are separated, there are two wires going from the main unit to them. So you end up with lots of wires. Of course,...

Drive + Play Let Downs

Strengths: Clear display, flexible mounting options, good build quality.

Weakness: Incomplete interface, glitchy screen, fischer price power on circuit, poor e-mail tech support.

The Harmon Kardon Drive + Play had the potential to be THE iPod interface for the car ... but it falls way short. HK got off to a great start with the concept of the joystick control and a quality screen. There are nice details like blue backlighting, nice materials and good construction but then they must have turned the whole thing over the electronic gurus and said "we need this by tomorrow"....

Let's compare apples to apples here

Strengths: 1. The most usable interface around for in-car use 2. Detached video screen improves safety

Weakness: 1. Doesn't have all of the capabilities of the Ipod 2. Will H&K update the software?

Reading the above review, I feel compelled to provide my own. I've had the HK Drive&Play for about 1 year now, and have to say that it is by far the best Ipod interface for the car that I've seen. Now careful - read that last sentence - the best Ipod interface. I think that people who compare this or any other secondary interface to devices that basically provide a line-out or FM-transmission of...

PERFECTLY COMPLETE

Strengths: ABILITY TO MANAGE IT WITHOUT DISTRACTIONS, AS NEAR OF YOU MUCH AS YOU WANT, FAST AND EASY, GREAT SCREEN QUALITY.

Weakness: THOSE FEW CABLES OF THE BRAIN.

I JUST SAW IT AND LOVE IT!! ON APPLE THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN CLASIFIED AS THE NUMBER TWO ON QUALITY AND RATIING (AND IF APPLE SAYS IT...) BEHIND THE BELKIN WHICH IS NOT A KIND OF WIRELESS AND EASIER AS H/K DRIVE & PLAY. IS JUST A GREAT INVENTION WITH A LOW PRICE, LOOKS COOL AND SOPHISTICATED; JUST FOR OUR iPODS !!!

Great unit - poor documentation and you need to know...

Strengths: nice mimic of the most of the IPOD interface, screen if position correct, joystick easy to use sticks a little, reconfigurable fonts

Weakness: Very poor documentation for setting up in-line FM modulator, AUX could not get working, electrically easy to connect - placement needs planning and setup menus unclear and had to figure out.

Very nice unit better than all I have seen and if you can buy now at less than $40 bucks add the FM modulator(Paid $29 at BestBuy (All wireless transmitter on any IPOD interface sucks - not enough transmitting power). Make sure you know what you are doing before you install. I installed in a 1999 SAAB 93 Convertible - turned out sweet. Used the Ashtray box for display and the cigarette lighter...

Great Ipod product

Strengths: this one has a very nice and easy user interface

Weakness: The interfererence on the radio is non a good thing

This is a must on every Ipod fan for a nice traveling and driving pleasure, cost maybe is a little high but every dollar spent on this is Worth every day I'm stuck in the traffic.

A good in-car iPod solution

Strengths: Design and style of product, simple to use, visibility of the screen even while driving, price.

Weakness: I really should have had it professionally installed.

I have tried several iPod integration options, and with the exception of a complete rewiring tied to my navigation system, this is the best integration kit available. It took a little while to install, and I would recommend having it professionally installed rather than doing so yourself, but is flawless. As was recommended to me, I believe this is the best inexpensive solution available today.

Great Product but needs professional installation

Strengths: Great looking product and sounds great.

Weakness: Needs professional installation and purchase of additional wired FM adapter.

This is an awesome product and I am very happy with the purchase. But you have to keep in mind it is not very easy to install on your own. I got mine installed at Best Buy and they told me I need to purchase a wired FM transmitter for this to sound good. Overall, it costs a pretty penny but I am really happy with the purchase.

HK Drive Play - Good overall

Strengths: Clean interface, easy to navigate, straightforward installation, a lot of features (Aux in, etc)

Weakness: Not the most stable software. I've had it start from a different location once upon start. Sometimes it starts right away when turned on, sometimes it doesn't.

ty good and for the price I got it at (~$25) it's hard to go wrong. When I did first receive it, the controller was malfunctioning but Harmon Kardon service came through with a replacement quickly and painlessly.

Harman/Kardon Drive + Play

The Harman/Kardon Drive + Play is a mobile accessory kit that makes it easy to control your iPod while driving. The kit features a 2.5” monochrome display, a small rotary control knob, and an electronics box that connects everything together. All three units can be mounted to the car, although a professional installation is highly recommended. As for connecting to the car’s stereo,...
