Additional Specifications
Product Series: XBR
Number of HDMI: 3
Strengths: Bright Colorful Picture, good sound and fast refresh for fast motion. 3 HDMI inputs. A beautiful TV.
Weakness: It is SONY = Expensive.
I had some research on LCD TV before selecting SONY Bravia. My main concern was the clarity, richness and smoothness of the picture when viewing HD broadcasts. Sony's colors compared to the Samsung or Sharp LCDs were more saturated, and had richer blacks. The multiple HDMI inputs are a big plus. It can easliy hook up my Xbox, PS3 and receiver. I think the speakers on the Sony are adequate. The...
Strengths: Well-built (hey...it's a Sony!), decent remote, extensive menu options.
Weakness: 120Hz MotionFlow Engine tends to overcompensate, making action movies look more TV like (30FPS) than film (24FPS).
I wavered between quite a few TVs before deciding on this one (ultimately, my decision was between the Samsung 52" 71F series and the Sony KDL-52XBR4). I am definitely NOT a Sony fanboy. I should note that I've owned Sony TVs for the last 10 years and swore I'd never pay that much for a TV again (or ever want to move a Sony again...they can be hea-vy!). I thought they were good TVs, but didn't...
Strengths: Excellent Picture. But many other of the major manufacturers also have highly refined and brilliant picture.
Weakness: Price is ridiculously high. Other leading manufacturers of the 1080p LCD television have at least brought their pricing into context.
Sony must show the willingness to become at least some what competitive. Because the truth is that there are many highly qualified 1080p LCD televisions that also are very impressive in this market. My Grandfather once said Pigs get fat, Hogs get slaughtered. Keeping the other high quality manufacturers in consideration, Sony's stance regarding their pricing is one out of context with the market....
Strengths: The HD picture on this tv is crystal clear, bright whites and great contrast. It has Picture in picture !!
Weakness: Price
The XBR4 is the top of the Sony LCD TV line. The colors are vibrant and seem almost 3D. The programs broadcast in SD are upgraded automatically to near HD quality. The remote and adjustment menu are both easy to use. I am extremely happy with this TV. The picture is the best I have seen on any brand, it is a major improvement over even last year's model. Last years model did not have PIP, this...
Strengths: uniform backlighting, Style, Rich color, 3 HDMI ports,BIG BIG
Weakness: Not a Plasma, and new LCDs are going to be coming along very soon.
If you want to get a great LCD TV you can't go wrong with this one. I can't say for sure that this is the BEST LCD on the market, but it must be in the top two. After just coming off a bad experience with the sharp 64U family of LCDs this Sony is a dream. The picture and colors are outstanding, and the black level is soooo good for a LCD. There is a saying out here on the net about the size of...
Strengths: 3 1.3 HDMI inputs. Bright Colorful Picture, and fast refresh for fast motion
Weakness: Non so far
We compared many flat panel LCD tv's before selecting the sony bravia. Our main concern was the clarity and richness of the picture when viewing Hd broadcasts. Sony's colors compared to the Samsung or Sharp lcd's were more saturated, and had richer blacks. The multiple HDMI inputs are a plus, but mostly being 1.3 version compatible was important as my av receiver is 1.3 hdmi compatible and we...
Strengths: Amazing picture; great quality.
Weakness: Price.
We purchased this tv from BB and absolutely love the picture. We own three sony's. 3 are bravias and this is our fourth. The blu ray discs look absolutely stunning on this one. It is in a room with a lot of light, above the fireplace and looks great. we would recommend this tv.
Strengths: picture and clarity
Weakness: sound
The TVs picture is fantastic. My only negative is the sound of the speakers. I would highly suggest getting a receiver, hooking it up tothe TV, turning the TV sound off, and playing the sound through the receiver/speakers. If you do that, i beleive you have a great system that will rival most of the "jones's"
Strengths: Size, design, picture clarity
Weakness: Number of HDMI inputs on back (3 total, but 1 is a side port). Price
To me, this is the best picture quality out there right now. Price is a bit high, but can be had for ~$3500 if you find a good special. My only dissapointment so far has been the number of HDMI inputs, as it only has 2 on the back. It has a side port, but given the proliferation of HDMI devices (PS3, Xbox, DVD player, etc etc), it would've been nice to have a few more inputs.

Terrific matte-finish TV, but unnecessarily wide
Strengths: Semi-matte screen significantly reduces glare, terrific picture, very deep blacks for a matte LCD, 120Hz refresh rate, lit remote
Weakness: Extra wide bezel styling make the TV unnecessarily wide, Non-ergonomic remote, crushes blacks more than Samsung 71 series, changing channels much slower than my old WEGA
I finally bought the 52XBR4 after three month's research, and I've had the TV setup for 2 days now. The other 2 contenders for my purchase were a Sony W3000 series, Samsung 71 series. After playing with calibration settings in the store, I firmly believe the Samsung 71 has a better picture, mainly because it handles blacks very well. The XBR4 has very good blacks for matte LCD, but the Samsung...
