Strengths: Anti-glare coating, deep blacks, good sound, good SD image, nice remote
Weakness: remote isn't backlit
If you are like me, you read all the reviews both professional and consumer to narrow your search for that big HD tv you've been saving for. Once your search is narrowed you go to a store to see these tv's in person in hopes it will make your choice easy. In side-by-side comparisons of other low end 720p plasma tvs, this tv seems to have a slightly better picture for regular, standard definition...
Strengths: Picture Quality; Anti-glare coating; Very nice looking with thin profile speakers
Weakness: None to date
This is my first HDTV purchase and I'm very happy with my choice. I've owned a Hitachi Ultravision 46 inch rear projection TV for 9 years without any issues, so my early research naturally led me to Hitachi for plasma. I tried the Hitachi 55HDS69 which has a lot of features but the picture quality for standard definition channels (most of what we watch) was so poor that I was quickly turned off...
Strengths: Non glare screen. Beautiful default picture. Plasma Concierge warranty service. Price.
Weakness: No PC input. Only 2 HDMI inputs
After setting the 77U in place, I simply plugged in the AC and the cable box - turned it on and had the most beautiful default picture I could have hoped for. It defaults to "just" aspect ratio for broadcast TV, which fully fills the screen. There are a number of selections for adjusting aspect ratio. The "non glare" feature WORKS! When I wanted to see what was going across the street, I simply...
Strengths: Great picture, deep blacks, reduced glare
Weakness: No CableCard
I did alot of research before deciding to purchase this model. I wanted a plasma to perform well for sports on TV, but didn't want the glare of most plasmas in the bright room where it sits. The anti-glare coating on this TV does a great job of diffusing the light and still looks fantastic when iti is dark. Wish it had a CableCard so I wouldn't need a cable box sitting next to it.
Strengths: Anti-glare screen HD picture quality
Weakness: Highly reflective , piano black casing looks nice but can be distracting.
Anti-Glare screen is amazing. This is my 3rd plasma and the other two had significant reflection in well lit room. This TV has a noticably better picture than the first generation Maxent I had and my 2 year old Philips. I've had no image retention, speaker sound is good and set up is easy.
Strengths: Picture quality, anti glare screen, stand
Weakness: Settings can be lost easily
This is the first HDTV we have owned and we are just blown away by the picture quality of this set. When watching HDTV the picture is just spectacularly sharp and the colors are life like. The anti glare screen is a must for a bright room. The screen handles our windows and lights commendably. Well worth the difference in price over the 75U. We do not have a home theater system so we get our...
Strengths: anti-glare screen and excellent picture quality and brightness
Weakness: slightly weak speaker output
This is the latest model of the 50" Panasonic 1366 x 768 (768p) resolution plasmas. This one has the anti-glare screen technology unlike to 75U model, which is a major plus compared with the older editions. However, the side-firing speakers are a little weak. This shouldn't matter to most since there are plenty of audio hook-up options to connect to an A/V receiver and external speakers. If you...
Strengths: Excellent picture quality, warranty with a well known company, ie. Panasonic, Concierage service
Weakness: The anti-reflective screen may take away some of the "pop".
I've owned this TV for about a month now. I was debating between this model and the Pioneer PDP-5080. The main reason I went with the Panny is because of the tauted anti-glare/anti-reflective properties. I can honestly say that they both work as intended. I live in a chalet style house with a wall of glass, so in my case that was priority one. What goods a great picture if the glare makes it...
Strengths: Anti-glare screen & picture quality in HD & SD
Weakness: As with most plasma's, some chance of burn in.
Did a lot of looking on internet and in stores (purchased online). Looked at LCD's and LED rear projection also. Panasonic solved the problem of glare on the plasma screen. We had a Toshiba rear projection that fried after only 4 years. Was always pulling window shades to stop reflection. When one of us was reading, could see the lamp and ourselves reflected. Almost glad the Toshiba gave out now,...
THE GOOD: Antiglare screen reduces reflections; produces deep blacks with excellent shadow detail; accurate initial color temperature; slick styling. THE BAD: Some false contouring; inaccurate primary color of green; no PC input; no user-menu fine color-temperature adjustments. THE BOTTOM LINE: Deep black levels and a new antiglare screen make the 50-inch TH-50PX77U one of the top choices among...

Panasonic Quality
Strengths: Anti-glare, deep blacks, nice black piano key bezel, great HD image, good SD image
Weakness: Not full 1080p
If you don't plan on using a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player, this is an excellent plasma TV. It doesn't have the full 1080p resolution that these players are capable of producing. With that said if you are mainly using it for broadcast TV through cable or satellite it is perfect. Currently, due to bandwidth issues cable and satellite providers are only capable of broadcasting in 720p or 1080i. The...
