Additional Specifications
Color Temperature: Failure in Plasma Display Panel picture elements (i.e., pixels) resulting from image Burn-In are not covered under warranty.
Analog Tuner: PAL
Strengths: Brill1ant color. Small width for a 42" display so it can fit into smaller cabinets than most other units. Does a great job of converting 4:3 aspect to 16:9. DVD's really come to life.
Weakness: Fan could be quieter, but under normal listening conditions is not noticeable. No tuner, but I don't need one as my satellite box has HDTV outputs along with an off-the-air HDTV tuner.
This display delivers outstanding pictures with DVDs. I haven't signed up for HDTV satellite service yet so I can't say what its performance will be with HDTV. Got a good price on line which was beneficial since I have never seen this TV in local stores, just Panasonic TVs with tuners. Installation is simple and very little setup is required to get a gorgeous image. I highly recommend this...
Strengths: Picture quality, price, value
Weakness: NOT fanless, some issues when switching from HD to analog, cheesy remote control
Bought this one after returning my Dell W4200-HD. See reasons for returning the Dell on this web site, now on to the review of the Panasonic. I bought this TV for several reasons. It was universally lauded as one of the best picture qualities on the market. The TV came bare-bones, which meant I did not have to pay for feautures I will never use, such as cheap speakers or cable/over the air...
Strengths: - Crisp picture - Subdued, clean design lines - Deep blacks
Weakness: - Light "whirring" noise during operation
I reviewed other sites (Consumer Reports, CNet, etc.) and stores (Circuit City, Best Buy, local audio/video store) when making my decision. Panasonic's picture flat-out looks better when compared against other manufacturers in the stores. Knowing that I wouldn't want to use the factory speakers on a consumer display, I began to search for "professional" displays such as the TH-42PHD8UK, because I...
Strengths: Picture quality, crispness and color brightness. Unit looks Bad azz without speakers.
Weakness: none that I've found
Shopped around a while before settleing on this set. I already have a DLP Hi-def Projector onto a 100" screen in my home theater, so I wasn't rushing into just anything. The solid reviews really sold me on this unit. The picture is crisp, the colors are vivid, nicer than my projector...I have it hooked up to my Bose system, so I skipped the speakers..they're cheesy anyway. I also have to agree...
Strengths: Great Picture, Great Look, Easy to Install
Weakness: Could include more component plugs.
This tv is tremendous for the do-it-yourselfer looking to save a few bucks. Picture quality blows away any other that I have seen. This includes the standard definition picture which is notoriously bad on plasma and lcd big screens. My friend has a Samsung LCD and the standard definition picture on mine is far and away superior. HiDef picture is of course outstanding. I hung mine on the wall. It...
Strengths: Sharp, elegant display. Rich colors, deep blacks. Amazing display for the price - best I found.
Weakness: None
After exhaustive research I bought this display from Visual Apex (www.visualapex.com). The display - note that this is NOT a television. It is a display typically seen in bars, conference exhibits, etc., but perfect for home also. There is no built-in tuner and there are no speakers. For most however those accessories are unecessary. My DirecTV TiVo receiver serves as the tuner and my Panasonic...
Strengths: Picture, picture, picture
Weakness: Absolutely zilch
Boy, oh boy. I've been salivating over the purchase of a plasma for some time, and I think I've looked at every plasma ever made and/or conceived. From what I had gathered, the reputation os Panasonic as the leader of the plasma pack was well deserved. However, you always have this hint of doubt when you're waiting for your TV to arrive. After all, most places have the ideal DVD's and/or HD video...
Strengths: Price, styling, pc versatility, picture quality
Weakness: ??
I list no weaknesses because the things it does not have, I knew it didn't have, and decided to do without. No tuner or speakers, because we have a stereo receiver and DirecTV. This works well EXCEPT we are constantly having to adjust the volume, especially on movie channels. Dialogue is low, music or commercials are high. So if that feature is important, this model is not for you. Other than...
Strengths: Great Picture, sleek appearance, quiet
Weakness: None so far that I can tell
Spent around 6 months doing online research for my first HD Plasma and waiting around for a good price. Had decided on the Panasonic brand pretty early in the process and was trying to decide between the TH-42PD50U, TH-42PX50U, TH-42PWD7UY or TH-42PHD8UK models. Ended up going with the true HDTV (TH-42PX50U and TH-42PHD8UK ) over the EDTV models (TH-42PD50U and TH-42PWD7UY) and then chose the...

By far the Best Plasma in its class, bar none
Strengths: Everything
Weakness: None so far
Like many others I spent months researching the best Display that I could afford and finally decided on the Panasonic 42 inch Plasma display. I am not disappointed. The HD picture is absolutely stunning. Even a regular Tv Channel picture looks pretty good. XBox games are fantastic. I've done my homework, calibrated the screen, to reduce the possiblity of Burn it, and I would have to say that the...
