The built-in 310,000 pixel digital camera supports up to VGA (640x480) resolution, and is perfect for taking quick snapshots and transmitting over one of the wireless connections. You can also record and play back video (MPEG4, 30 fps, 160x112)! The new wide-screen design features a high-resolution 480x320 display. Product Series: UX
Strengths: Small Design, Clear and Bright Screen, Better than expected Battery Life, Memory Pro Stick Compatible
Weakness: Small Screen, Needs Better Supplied Software
The design of the case is great. The screen is a bit small but the ability to swivel is great. I have heard of other reviews where they claimed that the screen is not bright enough, which is totally untrue. The screen is amazingly bright and can be seen in direct sunlight. The supplied software needs a bit of work. The Clie e-Mail and Netfront are not the best programs to use. In Clie e-mail you...
Strengths: Intergrated Wireless,Bluetooth. I like the landscape screen, it looks like a mini laptop. Choice of input (keyboard,Pen) I can use my memory sticks from my sony ditial camera with it.
Weakness: Screen could be larger for more intense users but it is ok for me.
I bought this for my wife who has been complaining about how she forgets her schedule. I have been using it, just to play with it, since I am a techno geek and love a new toy in the house. This is my first PDA and have researched PDA's and found that I got the most bang for the buck with this one. I believe certain manufactures specialize in certain types of products and I fond that sony excells...
Strengths: Small manageable Size, larger memory, Crisp and wide display/colors, wireless connectivity built in
Weakness: Price, poor quality of camera(not very useful - compared with NZ90)
Overall, an excellent product. It is small, light and the wide form factor display makes it a very desirable product. Wide display helps in web browsing - the included browser howser NETFRONT could be a real minus. The layout of the available software functions is very well designed - one can easily find the target grouping for a particular program. This is a very desirable product even with its...
Strengths: Voice Recorder, Movie Recorder, Built-in Camera, Landscape mode, Keyboard, Wireless & Bluetooth, Display sharpness
Weakness: Internal Battery life, USB connection location
I've had my Sony Clie UX-50 for a couple of weeks now after upgrading from my Palm Tungsten T2. I thoroughly enjoy the keyboard and additional features this device has to offer. I've used almost every feature already in everyday use. I can snap a quick picture with the Built-in Camera, Record a meeting with the Voice Recorder, quickly change back and forth between Datebook, Memo, etc. with the...
Strengths: The size and weight is unbeatable. It has so many features like the camera, mp3, full keyboard, and of course it's wireless. I also like that you can move the display around to make it even smaller.
Weakness: I'm not crazy about the power button but it isn't the worst thing either. The keyboard may not be so good for someone with large fingers.
Overall I'm thrilled with the capability of this tiny machine. It is going to be taking the place of my laptop for travel. It will also be taking the place of my digital camera for when I'm looking around at real estate.
Strengths: Size, screen clarity, jog dial, camera quality, input methods, wireless, lighted keyboard
Weakness: USB port, non-portrait ability of LCD, speaker output level low, power switch.
While I liked my Palm Tungsten C, the Sony PEG-UX50 beats it hands down. The USB port location and cover design make connecting the cable a clumsy chore and I'm wondering how long that little piece of rubber will hold out. I'd also love to see a feature that would allow you to hold the device so you can read the display in portrait mode when the LCD is swiveled. I don't really like the power...
Strengths: Easy to use. Not bulky. Fits in many carriers/ pouches. Long-lasting battery. Great warranty. Free post purchase training at CompUSA. A lot of 'learned' positive features. Huge sftwre collection.
Weakness: Expensive. Low resolution still cam. Attention-getter in meetings. Dislike the rubber-held USB cover.Appearance: Looks somewhat like a toy computer.
Teach "digital" at a training center,e.g., web cams, cams, imaging, PDAs. Used Clies for years. Now own the 50. Much better than the 90(the brick). Smaller, more versitile, great keyboard compared with ones before. Pro memory stick (up to a GB) capable. Bluetooth and wi-fi (included). Wud have to pay more for included features with other PDAs. Carry it as I did the Palm Vx. Not much larger....
Strengths: It does everything. Well almost!
Weakness: Not user friendly for a first time handheld owner
I love Sony products. You get quality when you buy Sony. I downloaded the manual for easier reference. I'm still learning but feel this was a good purchase. You need to add a memory stick to access more options. The camera and video is easy to use.

On July 18th 2003, Sony announced two groundbreaking new handhelds in the Clié family: the UX50 and UX40. The UX models are the first landscape orientation Palm OS PDAs that resemble mini (and I mean MINI!) notebook computers. With 480 x 320 color displays, a relatively roomy miniature keyboard and an integrated VGA digital camera, these units are quite compelling. But it doesn't stop there: the...

Sony UX50 CLIE PDA
Strengths: Small and thin (excellent form factor), high resolution display, excellent keyboard with shortcut function to quickly access your favorite applications, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth.
Weakness: Only a few applications support landscape display (this will change very soon), only 3 hard buttons (typical Palm devices have 4 buttons) which has problems with many apps that use all 4 hard buttons
You will like the UX50--features pack in a very small and slim form. As I see more and more apps are supporting landscape display, I am pleased that I bought my UX50.
