Strengths: Great for basic needs
Weakness: no ability to upgrade memory, and power comes on in pocket
I got my Zire 21 free with a set of Michelin tires for my truck, but I would not pay $100 for one. It is GREAT for free, but for anyone who needs much beyond an address book and a few small games, this PDA just does not allow for much beyond. I bought the leather case for this and, while it helped, the Zire still will come on in my pocket which caused me to need a password which is really...
Strengths: Fast processor, easy to use, good software package, long battery life, outstanding value.
Weakness: No backlight
The Zire 21 is a great improvement over the Zire. It sports a fast 126mhz processor, upgraded memory, and very nice software package. With street prices now in the $75 range the Zire 21 is without a doubt the best value out there! (Of course this unit is not for power users, but then again if you're a power user you're not even reading this review). For the vast majority of users - you can't beat...
Strengths: Very basic and easy to understand. Good first PDA
Weakness: Screen could have better back lighting
Since my basic need was for a portable address book and appointment schedular I will probably be satisfied with this model. However, for power users, look at the more advanced units.
Strengths: Extremely easy setup, though not a self-standing device. Requires that the owner has a desktop or laptop for optimal functions. Self-shut off feature is great and the battery lasts forever...so far.
Weakness: The graffiti feature takes some getting used to and you need to have an outside light source to use this device. A higher contrast between the screen and the writing would be nice.
Overall, I have been very satisfied with the Palm Zire 21. This is a great product for anyone who isn't a computer expert who simply wants to get his/her life together using an electronic advice. I am glad I purchased the Palm Zire 21. It's simple but also much better than any paper organizer I've had before. I'm glad I opted for the extra memory of the Zire 21 over the basic Zire. It's a good...
Strengths: fast, reliable and cheap
Weakness: no color screen, no backlight
its a nice product for students who want to be a little bit more organized! It has every basic options which you can expect from a PDA. It is easy to use and very cheap as compared to other products in the market!
Strengths: easy to learn
Weakness: if you plan to use in any dim lighting forget it, impossible to see. packaging never says no backlight. touch an item on screen and it brings up the wrong item. english is the only language recognised
if you need something to keep phone numbers in your better off with a peice of paper, at least you have a chance of reading or writing it in the dark. I have not found a way to write in spanish yet on the zire, I don't think it is possible. My old cell phone at least has language preferences. The alarm on it is terrible it has to be smashed inside your ear in order to hear it, or maybe your just...
Strengths: Value priced, good organizer, lots of third party software
Weakness: Faint alarm sound, no backlight
I've owned the Zire 21 for 2 days now, so far it's working well and syncs up properly to Outlook on my PC. The price was great, as I bought it with a bundle package. It has all the basic applications, and Palm's official website has many more you can download and put on your Zire (albeit at a cost). Like others, my main complaint is the Zire's alarm sound. It's very faint, even at the high...
Strengths: Does what you need
Weakness: Bare bones
I really jsut wanted a cheap PDA that would hold all my task lists, calendar, and contacts. I was also concerned that I wouldn't be able to use email with the thing but then I saw tha tyou could download from the web what you need
Strengths: Small size, light-weight
Weakness: Defective!
I have had two of the Zire 21s in two weeks. In both cases, even though it was fully charged, my data would just disappear and I would have to reprogram it , reload my data, etc. I finally called Palm only to be told that the Zire 21 was defective and that their engineers had fixed it -- but tell that to the Palm outlet that was selling me these things! They obviously don't know about it. I'm...
Interface is Poor according to 5 PDA experts. -- "The low res grayscale screen seems out of place on an otherwise powerful PDA."-mobiletechreview.com -- "Its very sturdy, and the display is made of plastic rather than glass, making it relatively child-safe."-mobiletechreview.com -- "The display is readable, but obviously, without a backlight, youre going to have a problem in dark...

One year after introducing the original Zire, Palm has released an improved version of this entry level device called the Zire 21. The Zire 21 sells for $99, and is available in department stores along with consumer electronics outlets (online and bricks & mortar). The target audience is first-time and casual PDA users who want to replace their post-it notes and daytimers, but don't want to spend...

Palm Zire 21 PDA
Strengths: Easy to use, hotsink is reliable and software is very good.
Weakness: Screen is some what hard to see in dark light and washes out in bright light
I have found the Zire 21 a good value if you want just the basics. It is easy to operate, and the software that is bundled with it is very good. Even though the monocrome screen is difficult to see in certain light conditions. I found that if you purchase the lighted stylus it overcomes some of the problem. One of the pluses of the Zire21 is it's size, it fits easily into a shirt pocket.
