Gear Reduction System of the Shrededer

Strengths: High capacity shredder for home use. Does what it is advertised to do with the following exception.

Weakness: Very poor gear reduction system. All metal gears except for the final drive gear which is made of nylon or an impact plastic. Plastic gear teeth sheared inless than a years use.

Plastic gear teeth sheared off in less than a year’s use. Shredder was not abused nor used every day. Combining steel gear teeth with plastic gear teeth is not a very good design. The torque of the steel gear teeth on the plastic gear teeth becomes incongruent and results in the plastic gear teeth shearing when there is any pressure from the shredding of paper or plastic items. Will not replace...

Closest thing to total destruction

Strengths: Micro-shred lives up to it's name. figure on bits of paper half the length and 3x the width of a standard staple. Plus, it is surprisingly quiet - about the same sound level as my inkjet printer.

Weakness: There is definitely paper dust when emptying this thing. Feed rate is ok, but limited to about 8 sheets of paper. overheated after shredding about a ream of paper - restarted fine after 30 minutes.

Love it. Great purchase - easily fulfilled expectations and more. You have to see (and hear!) it in action to really appreciate it. Other reviewer raises durability question - I'm hoping for and expecting the best - I've had good experiences with other Fellowes shredders. I haven't tried the CD/credit card shredder section yet. Came with 4oz of shredder oil (very easy to oil and recommended every...

The MS-450Cs works efficiently

Strengths: Super quiet, super tiny micro chips, super efficient.

Weakness: Only comfortable with five sheets, which is actually more than I usually need to shred at one time.

The MS-450Cs has strong steel blades that quickly reduced paper and credit cards into pieces smaller than chopped-up sunflower seeds. When I ran it to demonstrate its quietness, my colleague stood waiting and finally asked when I was going to start. It surpasses its description. This medium-duty unit is a giant step up from my light-duty always-overheating strip shredder. I added a paper bag in...

Overall a nice machine

Strengths: - Very quiet compared to most shredders. - Stylish design. - Safety feature at cutting area entrance. - Blades also seem recessed a safe distance. - Has an On/Off switch that some shredders lack.

Weakness: - Seems to jam a little easier than my previous shredder with a similar sheet shredding rating. - Disc / Credit card shredder functions fine, but is useless for credit card security. Strips too big!

Overall a nice machine. It functions as advertised. I wish it had a little higher sheet capacity at this price, but with a small child in the house, I paid for the quiet feature and cutter safety feature (My old shredder scared my girl every time I ran it!). You can buy the larger capacity MS460 model, but that was physically larger than I wanted for my home office. The combo of the rather high...

very quiet

I haven't had the shredder very long but so far it has worked great. However, it doesn't shred credit cards into small pieces.
