Strengths: There are a lot of things this unit will do, we've just barely scratched the surface. The sound is very nice. Nice not to have lots of speakers all around the room.
Weakness: Instructions for getting the TV to do the setup were not very clear.
For people who are not technically adept, the instructions were a little vague, but the quality (once installation & set up is complete) is awesome. I would definitely recommend this product based on it's quality.
Strengths: Good acoustics, can have rich deep sound, easy to setup, aesthetically pleasing style will blend in with most flat screen setups
Weakness: you may have to rearrange furniture to achieve maximum surround sounds, it is still a simulation and sometimes you don't get as deep a sound as you may expect
I first discovered this system when visiting a friends house. I did not realize his setup was this but we were watching a movie and I was sitting in a chair by the wall. I kept looking behind me for the speaker because I kept hearing sounds behind me. When I asked my friend he said there are no surround speakers - what I'm hearing is reverberations that simulate surround. I was very impressed and...
Strengths: Ease of setup, avoids running wires or trying to get power outlets near wireless speaker
Weakness: Has so many functuions it can be intimidating trying to figure it out, would be better if input designations were more flexable
The manual setups on this thing can be quite involved, I'm sticking with the automatic settings which took about 5 min from the time I turned it on and plugged in the mic until such time as I'm willing to experiment. Wish the input labels were generic allowing the user to create, totally, input names. Currently has assigned names that map to the names on the remote. They can be changed on the...
THE GOOD: Yamahas single-speaker surround system features 21 1.5-inch "beam" drivers; two 4-inch woofers; built-in digital amplifiers, proprietary surround processing; auto setup with the supplied microphone. THE BAD: Minimalist connectivity; nowhere near the dynamic oomph of an equivalently priced 5.1 channel HTIB system; lacks finesse on two channel music; youll probably have to add a...

Strengths: Very easy to set up. You'll be listening to surround sound 10 minutes after you pull it out of the box. There are tons of presets that you can work with to get the best sound based on the media
Weakness: the cables in the box suck. That is to be expected, but if you're going to maximize this machine, go buy a better optical cable.
I was suprised at how solid this thing felt. Definately not a hollow speaker box. You're getting a solid product for your money. There seems to be alot of manual adjustments that can be made. I look forward to tweaking this thing to make it even better. However, right out of the box sounded pretty darn good. One downside is that you have to go to a seperate screen to make adjustments. This will...
