Strengths: Good subwoofer, powerful receiver.
Weakness: Poor speaker quality, especially after time. Poor DVD quality, constant skipping, while my 50 dollar special DVD player works flawlessly.Third time is not a charm. Never will purchase Yahama again.
This is the third Yahama Home Theater In A Box (HTIB) system I have had since June of 2001. The only reason why is the returns I had to make at Best Buy. Each time, the DVD player has failed and I have had to replace the entire system because each model was no longer carried. And we all know what a pain it is to disconnect the old and re-wire the new. Each time the DVD player failed. With this...
Strengths: Incredible sound, blows you away. Receiver is best in this price range. Allin-a-box concept solves compatibility and audio matching issues. Good speaker wire provided. Lots of I/Os including on front.
Weakness: Not so that you'd notice. Remote isn't as bad as I've read about elsewhere. I paid full price at Best Buy plus sales tax. Should have bought online and saved bearly $200.
This isn't the system for the casual user. This is some serious audio magic here. Maybe not the system a real audio geek would choose (they might spend 5-10k) but a hell of a system for someone that wants quality but doesn't have the knowledge to go out and put a system together. The Yamaha Home Theater In a Box concept is just what I needed. This baby is ready for 6.1 but can handle regular VHS...
Yamaha YHT-740 Home Theater
Strengths: Quality product; Sound options; sound; Video switching.
Weakness: Set-up is a little confusing, but achievable; tech support is long distance, but useful.
The sound is incredible. Bose has nothing on this system. It's rated at 95 watts/ch., but these are full rated watts. I am completely satisfied w/ the product. Be careful who you buy it from if you get it online. Check to make sure the dealer you get it from is an authorized Yamaha dealer. If they aren't, then your warranty from the manufacturer is void.
