Strengths: Fantastic 1080p upscaling DVD player w/Faroudja DCDi - amazing picture quality on a 1080p capable HDTV. Ipod dock & wallmount included. Great price/performance ratio.
Weakness: Only one HDMI output, no optical out, no HDMI pass-through
Got this Philips Ambisound HTS8100/37 a week ago. Fits perfectly under my 61" HDTV and sounds a thousand times better than the built-in speakers. Upscaling DVD outputs 1080p over component or HDMI - HUGE upgrade over a standard 480p player. Not a true surround sound experience, but far better than a standard 2.1 stereo setup. Watched several flix on it and was very impressed. Nice tight bass,...
Strengths: Great sound. Variety of sound inputs. No messy wiring running around the living room.
Weakness: Need 4 walls in order for virtual surround to work.
This system is great. It fits in the media stand my LCD TV sits on while the sub woofer hides in the corner. It has a lot of power for its size. The best part is that I didn't have to wire up my living room. The only downside is that my living room opens up to the dining room, so the virtual surround doesn't have a wall to bounce the sound off of. Fortunately, I don't really care about having...
THE GOOD: Stylish, minimalist design; built-in DVD player concealed behind motorized door; very good video quality on DVDs; four total audio inputs; iPod dock included. THE BAD: No video inputs; sounds better with movies than with music. THE BOTTOM LINE: The exceedingly stylish Philips HTS8100 SoundBar packs the home theater experience--including a DVD player--into one slim package plus a sub.

Philips SoundBar HTS8100 Delivers on its Promise
Strengths: Ease of set up--good sound without a lot of wiring, built in DVD, much better than the TV speakers
Weakness: No separate bass control
So, after purchasing a new Panasonic LCD TV, I wanted surround sound without having to buy 5 to 7 speakers and all that wiring. After reading on all the reviews, decided on the Philips Soundbar with the DVD player which is very handy. The only extra wiring is to the subwoofer that came with the set. Very easy to set up. Sound is very good, cool DVD player set up. Very handsome looking unit--sleek...
