Weaknesses:  Manual is poorly writen. Miss led on volume control
Review:  Looking forward to using the i-pod hookup that came inclosed. Love the HDMI selection and standard DVD's look almost as good as blueray with included upconversion to 1080p. Trial and error using remote as there are so many selections available. This replaced a 10 year old Sony AV recevier and my speakers never sounded so good. Weaknesses:  remote leaves a lot to be desired.
Review:  love the 6 hdmi inputs. that really cut down on the cable clutter! once i got used to the gui, liked it very much. Still prefer my old B&K 507 GUI. much easier to use. Remote is awful, both of them. Bought a universal remote MX800. much better. scaler is pretty good. Anchor Bay did a good job with the VRS. Almost as good as the reon!

Review:  Forced to contact Yamaha Tech support on how to up-convert 480i, 480p, 720p 1080i into 1080p for my Sony KDL-52W4100 TV.... Learned to that RX-V863BL MUST BE CONNECTED with component cables. and that 720p and 1080i will be unchanged by this receiver...it would get 5 stars if not for the confusing manual and connection deception

Strengths:  Lots of inputs, can handle plenty of speakers and has power to spare.
Weaknesses:  GODAWFUL main remote that all but forces you to use the TV for basic operations, or use the alternate remote.
