Excellent A/V Receiver.

Strengths: Awesome features and sound. Clean good looks. HDMI switching and upconversion. LOTS of inputs. Multi-zone.

Weakness: * Hard to get with factory warranty at a good price due to auth. retailer restrictions * HDMI cables fall out too easily (more a criticism of the HDMI connector than this receiver however)

What can I say, I love this receiver. I recently completed a major HT upgrade, centered around the 60" Sony SXRD. I paired this receiver with the H/K HKTS14 speaker set, an OppoDigital upconverting DVD player, a Panny ES20D DVD Recorder, and my Charter MOXI Cable/DVR HD box. All I can say is, wow! My old HT system was old -- ProLogic based, no Dolby Digital at all -- so this was a major upgrade...

Good value reciever for the price

Strengths: HDMI connections for audio and video in/out.

Weakness: Can not drive 4 ohm speakers.

I was looking for reciever a few months back. I planned to spend around $600 for it. At that time, i was targeting the RX-V2500. Just before i planned to buy the 2500, the RX-V2600 came out. I bought it right after it was out for sale. I paid $1100 for it that time. And i could tell you it works great except it could not drive 4 ohm speakers. It has HDMI connections and video up-conversion for...

Yamaha RX-V2600 First Impressions

Strengths: HDMI switching, upconversion, easy and accurate auto setup, sound quality

Weakness: I couldn't HEAR the difference vs my 3 yr old Pioneer VSX-D912 to justify paying its current price. Can't use HDMI to connect Scientific Atlanta HD8300 cable box to HDTV Sharp LC45GD4U

After reading the reviews online, and talking to the sales manager at the nearest Sound Advice store, I was wondering if I could expect to hear a "significant" improvement both with music and movies versus my current A/V receiver: a Pioneer VSX-D912 which I am very satisfied with (and which was CNET's Editor's Choice in March 2003). (I don't have a trained ear and I am not an audiophile). So, I...

Yamaha RX-V2600 Receiver

Strengths: 7.1 channels, 100 plus watts without strain, professional appearance.Has upconversion capability and 2 HDMI inputs & 1 output.

Weakness: HDMI inputs did not allow my Samsung HD-350 DVD player to play through this receiver. It displayed "HDCP Error", and no amount of coaxing could resolve this.

Even though the DVD player was not capable of recording, the RX-V2600 did not allow the HDMI signal through to the HDMI output. It is possible that the intent is to prevent illegal copying, but then what is the use if DVD players (and HDTV receiver/decoders with HDMI outputs) are unable to be switched by the receiver remotely. Ultimately I had to feed the DVD HDMI output directly into my 37" LCD...

I like it

Strengths: HD Upscaling

Weakness: Complex to figure out

I bought the RX-V2600 to go with my Pioneer Elite 61' Plasma Monitor as a central control unit for my media systems. My desire was to run HDMI from both my LG-LDA511 DVD player (which I love - absolutely awesome ability to up-convert DVDs to HD format) and my SA Explorer 8300HD DVR cable box through this receiver and out to the TV. The LG DVD player works awesome. The SA cable box does not (the...

Convoluted design- it could have been an excellent...

Strengths: Nice OSD, accurate auto-eq and delay setup, easily adjustable parametric eq per channel, a variety of inputs with seperate gain control, component HD switching and upscaling from Svid and composite.

Weakness: Zone 2&3 useless without an external amp, no ability to patch amp channel i/os, no ability to convert analog to digital audio i/o, a convoluted remote control that makes you want to cry

There are too many things this receiver cannot do; too many convoluted setup paths that you must rigidly follow. It's extremely frustrating because this product comes so close to being the perfect center of any home theater system. But it's failures are so miserable that I cannot recommend purchasing this product. There is absolutely no flexibility. Here are some examples: Secondary zone outputs:...

Kenwood VR-9070 THX far superior to Yamaha RX-V2600

Strengths: The Yamaha excells nowhere that I have found

Weakness: channel crosstalk (ghosting) in almost every mode, runs hot, etc.

I have a Kenwood VR-9070 thx receiver that is very tight with no channel ghosting or crosstalk. I thought that since it only cost $400.00 I would upgrade to the more expensive RX-V2600 with more whistles and bells. That was a grave mistake. More cost does not equate to better quality. The Kenwood is going back into my system because it is far superior and the yamaha is going back to the store.

Yamaha RX-V2600 A True Audiophile-Videophile Dream...

Strengths: Fantastic sound, both in true stereo mode (Pure-Direct setting), and for a large handful of surround options.. Learning remote is versatile. HDMI is a MUST-HAVE for home theater.

Weakness: Digital upscaling - will not handle 1080p in the future.

This is a wonderful unit, linking form, fit and function into an elegant design. It is modestly easy to set-up and use, although it may be complex for a novice. Clarity of sound is great, the sound fields are accurate and present a transparent feel, with plenty of power to spare. A variety of audio-video inputs - including for me a "MUST-HAVE" PHONO input, give you everything you could want. A...

RXV2600

Strengths: Many sound field options, sufficient power, great sound

Weakness: There are hidden characteristics:

Plenty of options but has confusing navigation and menus HDMI out does not work certain with components Has video switching and up-conversion capabilities HDMI is an older version 1.1 so no SACD through HDMI Cannot process 1080p Zone 2 and 3 signals are analog only Stored data only last 1 week without the power cord connected Contains one XM Radio jack but cannot separately store XM radio station...

Great Receiver

Strengths: Great quality and ease of use. This is the perfect receiver for the standard home theater system.

Weakness: Challenge to set up, need to research Xbox 360 codes...not included in setup instructions

A great buy for the price. Although set up did take some time and we had to look up set up codes for the Xbox 360, after set up this product is easy to use.

Yamaha RX-V2600 Receiver Review

In reviewing the new Yamaha RX-V2600 I feel like I'm swearing in a new justice of the Supreme Court... After all, it's new and exciting, but there's also a lot of discussion and debate surrounding the newcomer. With the RX-V2600, Yamaha has entered that place where the label "AV processor" really starts to emphasize video processing. Let's face it, while there was always plenty of audio...
