Multi Channel In: Yes
Strengths: 1080 upconversion, GUI interface, input connections, 6 HDMI inputs, dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio
Weakness: Setup can be confusing, better setup documentation would eliminate this, main remote
After spending quite a bit of time doing research I decided the Sony STR-DA5300ES was the best A/V receiver to get and PriceGrabber would be the best source to find the lowest price with an authorized Sony dealer. This receiver is the top of the line. The 1080 upconversion works great. The GUI interface makes setup easy from a chair rather than having to crouch down and setup the receiver from...
Strengths: 6 HDMI Ports The ability for the receiver to upconvert all signals to 1080P. Also the ability to decode the new formats including dolby, true HD,and DTS master audio. Uncompressed audio sounds great
Weakness: One weakness is that it has 50 watts less per channel then my old one which was a Sony STR-DA5000ES.
I love this receiver. So far it works great for me. The uncompressed audio soundis fantastic. Initially I had a problem because I was sent this model with a serial number that indicated it needed a firmware update. However, I called Sony and they immediately sent me a new one. I urge anyone who intends to buy this receiver to check the serial number.
Strengths: 6 HDMI Inputs, GUI, Upconversion
Weakness: Price, Lack of Power Outlets, TV Compatibility
Have had SONY receivers before. This one is the latest with HDMI 1080p upconversion and switching. Having 6 inputs is nice, but make sure the HD TV supports AVR switching. Mine (a Mitsubishi DLP) doesn't, so I can't use a "one cable connection" (it will not recognize an input switched through the receiver - it just recognizes the receiver GUI itself). But this is not a receiver issue. The GUI is...
Strengths: 1080 upconversion from other inputs, video switching, six HDMI inputs
Weakness: Cost
If you are looking for a new receiver this is the one. Sony has again made a quality receiver. I have had my old one for 9 years and it still works great. I would recommend this receiver based on my positive experience with it for the last 2 months. After researching this product, I decided to buy it based on the six HDMI inputs. This feature gives me the ability to have only the receiver cord...
Strengths: I/O Switchability and most of GUI
Weakness: Poor video A/V Rcvr frequency response in Direct, 1080i and Auto modes; Unspecified Receiver FM performance, poor volume adjust GUI and a seriously false power rating.
False Power Rating - Read pages 143 & 145 of the 5300 User manual carefully. Maximum rated power input is 480 watts NOT 7 x 120 = 840 watts. Page 143 clearly implies maximum rating is 120 watts into 2 channels. At typical 50% power efficiency this also gives 240 watts rated output which is the real TOTAL RMS power rating of all 7 channels! POOR Video frequency response Bypassing the 5300 with the...
Strengths: Sony ES reliability and quality, 6 HDMI inputs, HDMI 1.3a compatability.
Weakness: None, other than price.
This is my third Sony ES receiver, the only reason I am upgrading from my STR-DA5000ES to the 5300ES is for the HDMI inputs. I am in the process of going to High-Def TV and wanted to use HDMI for all connections. I am using the 5300ES to control the entire AV setup much like I was doing with the 5000ES that I am replacing (actually its going in the Master Bedroom). The 5300ES is the controller...
Strengths: Everything! I'm completly satisfied with this product. IT does everything it says it does. The best of all it's easy to use and understand. It works great with all my components.
Weakness: Can't think of any
I looked at others and the one down side was the heat generated with the others. This stays cool and I have it on all day. This is important due to the fact I have this receiver tucked away in the wall behind the couch, so you just see the tv on the wall.
Strengths: 6 HDMI 1.3 inputs, 1080p upscale all inputs, DTS-HD & Dolby True-HD, auto-calibration of the speakers
Weakness: cost
This is my second Sony ES my 1st lasted me almost 10 years and still works but its outdated in this HD age. I had done a lot of research and waited patiently for the STR-DA5300ES to hit my price range which it did recently and for a small firmware glitch to be corrected. So far I have no complaints installation and auto-calibration of the speakers went smoothly. Great receiver so far, all that...
Strengths: everything
Weakness: none
I had the firmware problem, notified Sony had a new one in one day overnight delivery. This is a highly versatile high quality product. Everyone who listens to my system says its the best one they have ever heard. Of course High quality front and surround speakers with a sub-woofer helps, everything is driven by the Sony5300ES. Very satisfied
THE GOOD: Excellent graphical user interface; six HDMI 1.3 inputs; can upconvert all analog signals to HDMI; user-selectable output resolution; excellent upconversion video quality; XM- and Sirius-ready; automatic speaker calibration; can switch between nine high-definition video sources; onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding THE BAD: Expensive; main remote can be confusing,...

The Sony STR-DA5300ES is a 7.1 channel A/V receiver supporting the latest HDMI 1.3a standard and 1080p. It includes 6 HDMI inputs and has one output. Any one of its analog input sources can be switched and upscaled to 1080p over HDMI. However, HDMI-to-HDMI upscaling is not possible (see Denon AVR-5308CI for this feature). Including its 3 component video inputs, you can have up to 9 HD sources...

STR-DA5300ES Receiver 7.1 ( WOW )
Strengths: The sound and upconversion are Great . I really didn't know what to expect after reading so many other reviews .
Weakness: Maybe the price .I paid $949.50 at Authorized Electronics. It is not for every one .If you have large fingers it is a tad tight connecting the speakers .Overall it is a Great use for your stimulus ck
A lot of reviews said that the remote is confusing ,I don't see it . They did not like the Graphic User Interface ,I think it is fine ,The sound and the upconversion is outstanding .I use it with Bose Speakers ,10.2's AM5's, 301's, 191's ,VCS 10 and a powered Sub woofer .My cd's even sound better . I have not had any problem with The Directv as some reported I am using the HDMI for the Sat...
