Strengths: The most appreciated: auto setup. More than enough power to fill any reasonably sized home with excellent surround sound. Almost too many surround settings - it takes a while to get used to them all!
Weakness: No phono input (but that's commonplace these days). Not enough analog inputs if you have a lot of legacy equipment.
When my 7 year old Sony blew up and became a left-handed mono, this unit was just being released. I did a lot of research on brands and models prior to purchasing. I was torn between Yamaha and Pioneer, and settled on the Pioneer after extensive research. I wanted something cutting edge, yet useful for many years, and reliable (i.e. the Volvo of stereos). Purchased through J&R, due to their...
Strengths: Attractive unit with a good panel and remote design. Auto MCACC set-up with the enclosed microphone is a breeze. The "B" speaker option very nice for adjacent room use. Plenty of power.
Weakness: Unit depth plus cable space requires minimum of 20 inches. Large number of listening options, complex for beginners.
This unit was easy to set up, especially using the on screen pick lists. The 110 watts have provided crystal clear reproductions from both analog and digital sources, even through a 50ft run of 12 gauge wire to some patio speakers. The use of the remote and switching between sources has taken some getting used to, but is logical and has decent instruction manual support.
Strengths: WMA9 Pro Compatible. Component input with 100mhz frequency. THX Select 2 Certified. MCACC!
Weakness: No adjustable bass crossover frequency. A little too deep for my Sanus audio rack. Blue LED in the power button.
First, I still can't get my DVD player to do HD WMV discs, so I was not able to test WMA9 pro. Which is one of the main reason I got this receiver. Guess I have to update this later. MCACC is wonderful. Cut a 1-2 hour calibration job down to minutes. Results are pretty accurate for my setup. The componet input support up to 100mhz frequency, which provides better/more stable video signal then the...

The best receiver for every buck you pay
Strengths: THX Certified Auto Setup Auto EQ Excellent sound quality
Weakness: Manual is not very well arranged.
This is the best receiver (with THX) one can find at the darn good price. The unit is quite heavy. Not tried auto setup yet as I am still setting up my HT room. Let's see the colors of it later. Initial testing was impressive. The room was full with clean and crisp sound. After using this about close to a month, I would say this thing rocks. I repeat this is the best receiver in it's price class....
