Description

You will be hard-pressed to find a mid-range home theater A/V receiver that packs the TX-SR705 is amplification power and audio processing capabilities. LOVE IT!!

Strengths: plenty of power, tons of inputs, sounds great. Everything I needed all in one package.

Weakness: I couldn't get it to "down convert" video.

There was only one "issue" I had with the receiver and it really wasn't any fault to the receiver, just my lack of knowledge on electronics. My 65inch tv is about 4yrs old and does not have HDMI inputs however just about everything I hooked up to the receiver used HDMI. Upon reading reviews and product information I had the understanding that everything I hooked to the reciver via HDMI would be...

Good receiver

Strengths: Next-gen receiver; has a few HDMI; was able to generally learn what I needed to for basic functions

Weakness: Price, although other makes/models are even more expensive

This is my first "next gen" receiver, I had a lower-end Pioneer before which served me well but I wanted to experience some of the newer audio technology and settled on this Onkyo model. I am by no means a home theater expert or anything like that. So it took me a while to get the hang of it, but so far so good. I read what a previous reviewer wrote about the HDMI not processing the standard DD...

Onkyo TXSR705

Strengths: HDMI switching Audyssey Sound set up

Weakness: HDMI went out after about 10 days and I had to return the unit. There is a several second delay when switching sources.

I liked the unit right up to when I had to return it. The HDMI cable to my projector became disconnected when I was adjusting my set up. I just pushed it back in, but in retrospect I think that somehow fried the HDMI circuits. Everything else still worked, but no more HDMI in or out. Also note that Onkyo is serious about authorized dealer needed for warranty, they were not going to fix it without...

Onkyo TX-SR705 Receiver

Strengths: Tons of DSP options, THX certified, HDMI 1.3 compatible, 3HDMI inputs, Auto Speaker Calibration, Price.

Weakness: Gets a little hot after extended use.

I returned a Onkyo TX-SR605 to get this receiver, and I'm happy I did. It is able to apply THX processing to a PCM stream coming from my PS3, and gives me 6.1 surround sound from a 5.1 source. Sounds great! Numerous other DSP options include DTS, Dolby Digital, and able to decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Auto-speaker calibration is nice. It uses a microphone, and can sample up to 8...

Onkyo TX-SR705

Strengths: "Pound for pound", feature for feature, this THX Select 2 AVR beats all receivers in the category. Latest technology incl. 3 HDMI 1.3, Dolby TruHD, etc.

Weakness: Does not have the greatest Deinterlacer but there are no AVR's below $1500 that will feature this.

After numerous and several days of research, the SR705 has the most “bang for the buck”. There are new HDMI 1.3 AVR’s being released by Denon, Pioneer, Sony, and Yamaha but to match the features and technology, one would need to pay $300-$700 more. The product does of superb job of HDMI switching from my component fed XBOX 360 to my HDMI fed Oppo 981HD DVD player. The Audessy MultiXT sound...

Overall Great AV Receiver

Strengths: Very easy to hook up with HDMI (all of my components use HDMI - DirectTV HD DVR, DVD Recorder/VCR Combo & HDTV). Audio and video quality is very good. Instructions were fine unless you are a novice.

Weakness: The bass does not work well with my Bose speakers. I think this is more of an issue with the Bose than the receiver so I am planning to purchase a new powered subwoofer to see how that works out.

Overall, this is a great receiver. I spent a lot of time researching which receiver would best meet my needs and selected this one. I am very pleased with my choice. In addition to the strengths listed above I also like the ability to program the 3 macro buttons on the remote. This allowed me to power on and off my entire system with the push of a button instead of having to pick up 4 remotes.

Great Sound, Odd Connect

Strengths: Fantastic surround, great sound quality

Weakness: Inability to receive regular surround signals (Dobly Digital, DTS) through HDMI - must ALSO connect fiber optic or digital coax for standard surround.

Frankly there is little practical difference between the 705 and the 605. Anyone looking to get the next-generation High Bitrate surround equipment for relatively low cost would do very well to get the 605. The 705 has a few extra features but overall is so much like the 605 that given the price difference I might actually recommend the 605. The weird connection hobble Onkyo put in here is that...

Good Receiver

Strengths: 3 HDMI inputs, 720p upconversion

Weakness: limited in component assignment

The TX-SR705 is one of the newest HDMI-capable receivers. It sounds very good, when paired with my new Onix Rocket speakers. It has plenty of digital sound processing, pretty much any digital format out there. It is also THX-certified. The downside is that it is somewhat limiting in component assignment. For example, the multi-channel analog input is ONLY for DVD. Most of DVD players have digital...

TX-SR705

Strengths: Great sound, features, ease of set-up

Weakness: None

This receiver sounds awesome! Plenty of clean power and enough features and custom settings to satisfy anyone. Set up was very easy. Audyssey worked very well to adjust speaker levels. The on screen set-up menu displays thru HDMI(my previous receiver had to be connected to composite video to display.) The menu commands are very easy to follow. The only issue I have is when watching HD TV thru my...

Simply Solid

Strengths: Features galore. Very clean and rich sound. Supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS MA formats. HDMI switching w/ 3 HDMI v1.3 inputs. Learning remote w/ macros and backlite. Connections very well laid out.

Weakness: Does run a little hot, but most receivers do. Just make sure you have adequate ventilation.

This is one of those rare times when you get more than you paid for. The Onkyo TX-SR705 is a very well made piece of equipment that delivers on what it promises. You can't beat what you get for the price. I'm always pleasantly surprised when you get something new, hook it up, and it just works. The 705 does just that. It replaced my older Sony receiver and I can't believe how much richer the...
