Description
As part of the second generation of Onkyo high-definition-capable receivers, the TX-SR606 is at the forefront of affordable home theater. The key is to have the most capable version of HDMI. The TX-SR606 provides high-definition video and audio processing for four source components, another first for Onkyo at this level. From Blu-ray Disc players to gaming consoles and cable/satellite boxes, you have everything in the digital realm covered. Apart from 1080p video, the TX-SR606 can upscale all video signals to 1080i, regardless of the connection, for output via HDMI. Onkyo's own RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) also gives you inter-operability with the displays and playback components from other leading brands. And with an expanded version of Audyssey's room correction technology, the TX-SR606 maintains the fullness of surround sound audio quality at low volume levels. The TX-SR606 offers all-round excellence rarely seen at this level.

Strengths: 4 HDMI inputs, every codecs known to man, clean lines and automatic speaker setup.
Weakness: HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!
I have had this receiver for almost 3 weeks now and I am very satisfied with my purchase. I got it from one of Pricegrabber's storefronts for the unbelievable price of $365 delivered. I have been very pleased with the connectivity and the ability of the receiver to do DTS-HD for my blueray player. My only concern is that the unit gets very hot. I watch a movie last night and it got hot enough tha...
Strengths: On-screen display of setup, HDMI upconvert, 7.1, 4 HDMI ports.
Weakness: Speaker setup is tedious.
Bought this new, no bugs noticed as of yet. Power distribution is great and allows you to individually set the decibel setting of each speaker, including the sub. Highly customizable interface which is a pleasure to deal with unlike my 1yr old Sony system which was difficult to understand.
Strengths: 4 hdmi, 7.1 ready, Automatic speaker calibration, On-screen control, Audio decoding (not just passthrough)
Weakness: Gets very hot, 90 watts per channel, 6 inputs but only 4 usable at a time
This is my first jump into the field of home theater. So far I am happy using this with my 5.1 setup, and it allows me to expand to 7.1. I am a little concerned that 90 watts/chan will not be enough when I want to expand in the future. Also, there are 2 component inputs and 4 hdmi, but you can only use any combination of 4 at a time, as hdmi inputs 1 and 2 double for component inputs 1 and 2. Not...
Strengths: Sound is awesome
Weakness: When watching anything from my 360 or Wii other sources over component, it would randomly drop the signal. I have since found this is a common problem for this receiver.
Sounds great, and extrememly easy setup... but if you want to run video through it, you basically have to live without a reliable signal. Don't buy this receiver. It's highly rated for some odd reason.
Strengths: Sounds gret but underpowered.
Weakness: HOT!!! It needs to be stored outside at the North Pole!! It drops video signals randomly as you watch things. I concur previous reviews that say the same thing. Bought a Pioneer 1018 and love it!

Strengths: Compared to Yamaha/HK in same price range, can not top the TX-SR606 features. 4 HDMI inputs.
Weakness: When A/V source is changed or sound energy mutes (pause DVD) I hear a pop in right surround speaker. Some discussion on AVSFORUM found. More investigation required.
Replaced my 14 year old HK, what an upgrade in technology and capabilities. Up scaling DVD 480p to 1080i decent picture, main benefit is the expanded vertical picture height. Do not expect a near blu-ray picture, remember the TX-SR606 must make more from lesser information.
Strengths: Relatively small and inexpensive
Weakness: Doesn't work
I upgraded to the TX-SR606 from my 20 year old Denon. The unit seemed to work okay for about 6 hours but then failed and cannot be turned back on.
Strengths: 4 HDMI inputs, support latest codecs, great sound
Weakness: 10801 upscaling sucks
The main reason I bought this receiver was for the 1080i up-scaling. But I am disappointed after seeing the up scaled video. It is the worst up-scaling I've ever seen. I had an SR805 model which I returned due to overheating problem, but the video from it was better even though it doesn't upscale it. One thing I like is it is not getting overheated like SR805. Sound is great though!
Strengths: Unbelievable sound. super easy to setup. nicely build. runs cool. nice appearance.
Weakness: Can't relabel Inputs. BUT, considering all the other features offered not a big deal.
Hooked up to a XBOX 360, Digital Cable and BlueRay DVD. All HDMI at 720p, and all are working/switching perfectly. No humming or other line noise. Have the receiver running out to a Gefen splitter and sending signal to both a Toshiba HDTV and a Mitsubishi projector. Works great and the sound is unbelievable. MUCH better than my Yamaha receiver, which was very good in and of itself. Highly...
The Onkyo TX-SR606 is the follow-up 7.1 receiver to the hugely popular Onkyo TX-SR605 released in March 2008. The 606 features an upgrade to 4 x HDMI 1.3a inputs, up from 2 in the 605, and will not only transcode video signals to HDMI but will also upscale to 1080i over HDMI. The Onkyo TX-SR606 can decode HD audio sources (Dolby TrueHD, dts HD-MA). The TX-SR606 can deliver 90 Watts (@ 8 Ohms) to...

As long as you don't use HDMI
Strengths: Good receiver for the money.
Weakness: HDMI switching fails
I bought this receiver a little over two years. Within about a year I noticed a problem with trying to use my PS3. At first I thought it was a cable, so I changed it. Didn't fix the problem so I starting changing the HDMI inputs. Then I started doing some research and it turns out many people have had this same problem and it has something to do with the HDMI daughterboard. In conclusion this...
