Strengths: Phenomenal sound and options, pristine video bypass.
Weakness: Customer service and complexity.
This is an absolutely phenomenal receiver. It can drive my Axiom audio 7.1 system with 4 ohm front speakers (not recommended by Denon, but it works just fine) and 6 ohm surrounds without any problems at volumes as loud as I can stand for as long as I can stand it. It is crisp and clear throughout the volume range I can tolerate without any distortion, ever! The options are incredible. It has...
Strengths: Up Convert works well, setup was not as bad as others have mentioned (in other locations on the interweb), sound is beautiful even on cheap speakers (you get what you pay for there)
Weakness: Heavy, onscreen doesn't work for DVI mapped output, the remote feels a little cheap for the price of the device
Setup took about 1 hour with re-wiring my whole home media setup (HP Media Center, DirecTV Plus DVR, and new Sony SXBR). We went from many many cables to one DVI to HDMI, One SVideo, one HDMI to HDMI output and Two Optical Audio. Once everything was in place the device powered up fine with one catch. Not having 7.1 speakers, I did not hear any sound from any input (and the auto config would not...
Strengths: Support both new & legacy technologies, HDMI, iPod, XM-Radio ready, more in/outputs than you can shake a stick at, etc., etc., etc...
Weakness: Non-Techies may be intimidated by the effort required for installation & setup (just call up your techie friend and provide a home cooked meal for his services)
I love this unit. I upgraded from the Denon AVR-3801. It took a few hours to get it completely setup, but it works great. I have to hand it to Denon on the supplied microphone and the automatic surround sound calibration. One word of advice, "READ" the manual. Unless you are a sophisticated audiophile who understands the industry lingo, some of the on-screen menu options may be confusing. Even...
Strengths: Denon quality, tons of inputs/outputs, iPod support, Internet music/digital music server, HDMI up-conversion (including analog sources)
Weakness: Price..not for the feint of heart/wallet
If you're an audiophile who has a large but not unlimited budget (or just looking to build the ultimate home theatre setup), this should be your first stop. Denon's reputation for sound quality and AV/home theatre features is well-known, and this unit is no exception. Denon has chosen to roll-out its next generation features, including iPod support, HDMI up-conversion from analog sources, and...
Strengths: Denon Quality; Solid build; not overly flashy exterior; internet radio & home-netowrk streaming; decent remote; 2-year warranty
Weakness: Lop-sided heavy (understandable); kludgy OSD; complicated setup
First off, you are going to buy this receiver for it's brand name: Denon. Long established as one of the better A/V receiver manufacturers. It's not their top-of-the-line, but it's pretty darn close. I was looking to upgrade from my five year old Onkyo, as I needed component & HDMI switching capabilities. While I could have gone with Onkyo, they didn't have any reasonably priced models that...
Strengths: Easy set up. plenty of inputs for legacy equipment, HDMI in(3) and out(1). upscaling for HD monitors. 7.1 channel capable
Weakness: Not quite the build quality of my old 3500. Input and out put set up not as intuitive as it could be, ditto for the remote. Instruction manual lacks a "contents" directory
I just received delivery of the 4306 and installed it into my rack replacing a Denon AV3500. Being familiar with some of the Denon nomenclature helped with where to plug all my legacy, DVD (2 Sony Jukeboxes), CD (JVC 200 Disk). JVC turntable, JVC VCR/DVD recorder, Phillips music CD recorder, Oppo 970 DVD, and Pioneer 5070 Plasma with SA HD 8300 cable recorder. Following the Denon manual I used...
Strengths: Very good range of input and output options.
Weakness: Setup was not intuitive
I would strongly recommend this receiver to the home theater user that is looking for an above average system. Boxing was standard for this type of electronic component and was complete with testing microphone, complete manual, and remote control. The input and output options were fantastic with the capability of running all components including gaming consoles through the Denon. I wired the...
From Manufacturer - The AVR-4306 is a brand new model for the Denon A/V Receiver line-up, with features and connectivity at a price point never before seen. With a robust 130 watts for each of its 7 channels, Denons exclusive Dynamic Discrete Surround Circuitry, the AVR-4306 follows in the Home Theater footsteps of its critically acclaimed siblings the AVR-4806 and AVR-5805. The Audyssey MultEq...
Top
Denon's AVR-4306 was one of the most anticipated products of the year. With the AVR-4806 being out of reach for some and the AVR-3806 being perceived as a mid-fi product, the Audiophile community had expectations of where they could find an affordable, truly powerhouse 7.1 receiver. The AVR-4306 hits what I think of as an upper-mid-fi price point desired by so many of these quality and...

Excellent for movies and music alike
Strengths: Solid build quality, excellent audio, many features
Weakness: Some accessories, connections should have been better
This receiver has many features and options. The instruction booklet is over 100 pages with multiple columns. So before buying, I would suggest also looking at professional reviews, my review will be from a consumer's point of view. Build: Solid and very heavy. Make sure to leave enough space on all sides as this receiver gets very hot. The front panel knobs and connections are perfectly...
