se420 vs. se 530

Strengths: great sound; deeper base; good noise isolation

Weakness: A little tricky to get in the ear the right way

I previously had a set of the Shure se420’s but was not quite satisfied with the over all sound especially in the low end. I searched in vain for a review of the se420s’ vs. the se530s’ and could not find one. So I took a leap of faith and bought them. Now the good part. I started my A vs. B comparison on all types of music from rock to jazz to classical and in each case the 530’s won...

A dependable choice

Strengths: Clear sound, truthful reflection, great sound isolation

Weakness: Sometimes i feel that the sounds are generated inside my head and it is coming from behind me. Not complete surround sound.

I wont tell you that you can hear sounds that you can not hear in other headphones. But, the way the same sound heard is the trump card. Infact, i have also felt that i haven't heard the sound in some of my favorite songs before. I double checked with my HD280 (it is one of the top 10 headphones). I am able to hear the sound. But, the effect is complete and true in SE530. As the sound has not...

SE530: top of the line triple driver sound

Strengths: Clear bass, excellent highs, lovely black/silver look, high end swappable cord, comfortable feel in ears, variety of earbuds supplied, accessories

Weakness: Push-to-hear feels cheap, rolloff, muddled midrange compared to Ultimate Ears or Sennheiser, requires decent sound driver/amp NOT for iPod, large cumbersome head units

Overall, this set of higher end earbuds are advertised as "top of the line" high end from Shure, a "sure" fire brand well known to consumers as well as prosumers in the music industry. Acoustically they are no different than the Shure E500 series but in my opinion somewhat better than the E5's especially in the midrange which traditionally has been Shure's "weakness" - a bit rolled off at the top...

great sound, comfort and noise isolation

Strengths: great bass; superior sound; comfortable; good exterior noise isolation; solid construction

Weakness: heavy cord too stiff, must be worn looped over ears and cinched down with slider

I started out with Etymotic ER6 for about 2 years. They were great for noise isolation and I liked the flexible wires with shirt clip but had trouble with the fit in one ear. That ear canal has more of bend and long wear (more than an hour) was uncomfortable or sweat when exercising made it pop out. Bass was ok but nothing like the SE530. The smooth compact design of the SE530 fits nicely inside...

But the cables.......

Strengths: Proabaly OK

Weakness: The cables the cables

There has been a lot written recently about the cables on Shure earbuds. What we still do not know is, have they sorted out the cracking problems with the cables? And until they do then you should be very careful before spending this kind of money on a set of headphones. BEWARE!

Sold to a co-worker

Strengths: Very good sound quality.

Weakness: They are still ear buds. I much prefer over-the-ear or on-the-ear headphones over ear buds.

I thought I would give these ear buds a try since they are considered some of the best. In the end, I sold them to a co-worker (for a substantial discount) after 2 weeks of testing them out on my home stereo and on the BART train with my iPod. I just don't like anything that deep in my ear producing sound. I still love the old-fashioned, out-of-fashion and bulky headphones.

Simply the BEST!

Strengths: Out-ragest sound. Very comfortable(compared to an older set of Shure I've owned).

Weakness: The (outside) packaging they come in are second to none, however the carry case for these ear buds suck! You would think that paying this kind of money, that Shure would have designed a better case.

After doing my research of these head phones, I was a bit hesitant to buy from a "store" that were more than $100.00 cheaper than anywhere else. So after being assured that these were new and not refurbished, I took a chance....and man was it worth it. Not only are these the best head phones I own (and I also own a pair of the "QuiteComfort 2"), I would recommend these over any out there....at...

awesome!

Strengths: everything... best sound ive heard

Weakness: i have no problem with the cord. no real weaknesses as far as im concerened

all in all, i love all the shure earphones, but these are clearly the best. if the price range is a bit steep, check out the 110's. they are great for the price.

Bought and used the shure SE530

Strengths: one of the best sounding ear buds out there

Weakness: the cable is thick and heavy and putting it on is a hassle

even though i like listening to good quality music i always second think to bring the ear buds due to its weight and cable thickness. The cable is modular (a bad thing) the modular part makes it heavy and you always tend to lean towards the longer cable size and its so long! Most of use are used to 4 feet as defacto standard size, but the short cable is way short and the long cable its way long....

SE530

Strengths: sound is very crisp, bass is pretty deep and tight, noise cancellation

Weakness: expensive

i own a pair of e2c (retail 100) before and this is a hugh upgrade (compare to 500 bucks). the e2c is nowhere as goog as the se530. the bass is not as good, the sound is not as clear. i got the se530 without the PTH (push to hear) cause it cost 75 bucks more.

Shure SE530 Sound Isolating Earphones

THE GOOD: The Shure SE530 headphones offer exceptional clarity; deep, tight bass; rich, enveloping sound; and great noise isolation. They are also comfortable and include some useful extras such as an in-line volume control and an airplane adapter. THE BAD: The Shure SE530s are expensive, and the earbuds are on the large side. THE BOTTOM LINE: Travel-happy audiophiles will be infinitely pleased...

Shure SE530

The Shure SE530 is a high end flagship, sound isolating earphone. The SE530 continues to build on the earlier four models, refining the Shure sound signature and providing a better build. A triple driver design, the SE530 provides better bass response than earlier models. The SE530 comes with a "Push to Hear" controller, which allows the user to manually adjust the level of external sound....
