Strengths: Audio quality (for noise-canceling headphones)Battery LifeConstruction QualityIsolating outside noises
Weakness: Needs better audio cord - I noted some of those dreaded crackling sounds when connecting and moving around when connected. I upgraded to a better quality audio cord and all is well now.
In addition to the above audio cord issue, there are two other complaints:1. That little blue light that indicates the headphone circuitry is active (and blinks when battery is low), is too bright in a dark room or darkened airplane cabin - you could almost use the headset as you would a pen light to find your way to the airplane lavatory (and the people sitting next to you
Strengths: Comfortable, really block outside noise. Great bass response.
Weakness: None noted.
Comfortable, durable headset that gives great bass response and does an excellent job of noise canceling, with or without the white noise generator. I use them all the time when I need to separate myself from noises/distractions around me. Reasonablly priced compared to other headphones of similar quality. Highly recommended!
Strengths: Good noise reduction. Lightweight. Clear audio.
Weakness: Minimal hiss -- barely perceptible. Even when folded in carrying case still bulky.
I have previously owned Sony noise canceling earbuds ~2002, and am glad to report that the technology has advanced since then. These headphones strike an acceptable compromise between audio quality, size, noise reduction, and price. They are a godsend for anyone who commutes via bus, train, or plane.
Strengths: Excellent noise cancelling, great bass, excellent overall sound quality.
Weakness: None.
I had previous purchased noise cancelling headphones that cost 1/3 as much as these and they performed so poorly I returned them so I started thinking about biting the bullet and spending $big for Bose. Then I read a review in the Wall Street Journal (June, 2007) comparing Bose, Panasonic and the ATH-ANC7s. In terms of performance, Bose and the ATH-ANC7s came out on top. The reviewer could tell...
Strengths: Good noise-cancelling and good construction
Weakness: Not quite enough voltage from NiCd or NiMH batteries -- you have to use alkaline. And you do get sound without power, but the quality of the sound drops very noticeably
A true alternative to the famous Bose noise-cancelling headsets. I had been using ear-bud type noise cancelling sets from Sony, but since they tire the ear during long 12 hour flights, I've decided to switch to these (despite the disadvantage of having to carry around headsets that are much larger than small ear-buds). The noise-cancelling is good, and you can use them even without power (unlike...
Strengths: Decent sound quality and noise reduction. Nicely packaged.
Weakness: High end noise not canceled. Not comfortable for me.
Used on a couple of short airplane trips. They are OK but do not cancel the full spectrum leaving high end noise apparent. Also they do not feel comfortable to me. Perhaps the Bose would be better in both regards. The Shure e3's are smaller and more convenient to carry, sound better, and do a better job at canceling the full noise spectrum. I'll stick with those. This is my opinion only - I...
Strengths: Excellent Noise Reduction; Detachable cable; Lightweight; Uses only 1AA battery
Weakness: Weak sound output when NR not activated; Felt fragile; Not compatible with rechargeable batteries.
After searching for a decent noise reduction headphone, I came across the ATH-ANC7 from Audio Technica. My original intent was steered toward the Sennheiser line. However, after reading several favorable reviews, I purchased the ATH-ANC7 cans instead. My initial impression was favorable as the packaging was well-designed. The headphone came with a sturdy case with connectors for use in in-flight....
Strengths: Compact and sturdy design, reasonably comfortable to wear over the ears, appreciate the ability to use ordinary batteries.
Weakness: See comments below
I notice a fairly strong hiss when in noise-canceling mode, and wonder whether this is normal. The headphones certainly work as far as blocking out most external noise, but I hadn't expected this to be replaced by internal noise. Presumably one gets used to it? When noise-canceling mode is switched off, the quality of sound drops markedly. Again, I expected they would work more effectively in...
Strengths: suppresses airplane noise, comfortable, good sound quality (separation of instruments).
Weakness: none so far
May not be Bose, but at half the price, it still filters out airplane noise, weighs less than Bose, and is exceedingly comfortable. better sound quality than Sony mdr-nc22; better noise suppression than Shure scl3-w.
Offering tremendous bang for the buck, the ANC7s deliver performance that rivals much more expensive headphones. Superb noise canceling effectively blocks outside noise with or without music...

Quality Headphones at a Reasonable Price
Strengths: Clear fidelity, light and comfortable.
Weakness: Price is not in line with quality of the product. They should be charging more.
I am a long-haul trucker and often watch DVD movies on my laptop with the engine running for AC or heat. A 500 horse Caterpillar engine at idle can produce more noise than you might think, so a pair of noise cancelling headphones is a must. I shopped around on the internet and read reviews on several different brands and models, and was almost set to buy the Bose QC2, before finally deciding on...
