I purchased this unit because it was able to get traffic updates, gas station prices, movies etc. and found out afterwords that the "optional" receiver has not yet even been manufactured. Now I am out $299 for a unit that will not function as advertised. I called Garmin and they said there was nothing they could do, that they were not sure when the Garmin GDB 55 MSN Direct Receiver would be...
Strengths: All aspects including sound, clarity, color, accuracy and points of interest work well

I think the 255 is an excellent entry level GPS that works well and as advertised, however, I think for a few extra dollars, the package should include accessories such as USB and case which are often essential and need to be purchased at a later date.

Weakness: unreliable - continueously looses satilite
I used it on vacation in Washington D C and Ocean city, Md. It never could lock on to a signal in D C, Once I got out of town it worked intermittently. I never got any help from tech support. I followed the instruction manual to the T. I thought it was going to be a lot of help, but really its an untrusted nuisance.

Garmin nuvi 255 GPS
Strengths: Touch the car icon and find out exactly where you are plus info for the nearest police, hospital, and gas. Amazing number of points of interest. Easy to understand voices.
Weakness: Haven't found any yet.
Since some areas ticket for anything attached to the windshield, I wish it came with the portable bean bag mount instead of the suction cup mount. I love the waypoint option, and the ability to search in advance for points of interest (like hotels) near the destination.
