Weaknesses:  Upconversion only available with DVD-RAM disk. Output is standard definition.
Review:  Output is not "near HD" quality, but standard definition. Upconversion is SD but allows full widescrean only with DVD-RAM disk, all others are 4:3 and leave picture smaller or with black edges on the screen. Weaknesses:  Hard to label chapters, slight delay with record feature, no S-Video input
Review:  I would highly recommend this recorder. It was very easy to set up, makes excellent copies, and has a number of input/output options. It doesn't have an S-Video input, but the picture quality on HQ record mode seems to be quite good anyway.

Weaknesses:  Front panel DV and USB inputs only work with certain late model Sony products, other manufacturers products do not seem to be recognized.

Weaknesses:  - poor DiVx playback - no USB port for thumb drives

Weaknesses:  Video output can't be controlled for a 4:3 TV signals for the on board TV tuner, tapes or disk.
Review:  Video output can not be controlled from the the old NTSC 4:3 format when using the Component (Y, Pb, Pr) video output to a HDTV.
