Strengths: Ease of Use Clear Manual
Weakness: No 4:3 natural setting
This DVD recorder is very simple to set up according to one's own audio or video preferences, for the manual is organized extremely well. The picture quality through the HDTV tuner is quite good. Using the recorder is also very straightforward. It would have been nice if Toshiba had provided the option of outputting a 4:3 source according to its natural format. Fortunately, I am able to adjust...
Strengths: It does it All: Playbacks through HDMI are almost HD Quality, Recording is easy, and digital tuner makes life easy,
Weakness: none
I am using a HD monitor without a Tuner, and a HD DVR, but now if I am recording two programs I can watch a third using the digital tuner.
Strengths: Good quality recording (but...), easy to use
Weakness: Does not record in 1040 (w/ cable box), time keeps on slipping
For the most part, I like this machine--it's easy to use out-of-the-box and the quality recording is good. There are two major flaws I do not like however. (1) It will not record in 1040 if you are using a cable box. The highest input into the DVD recorder from the cable box is a S-Video cable...inputting only 480. That means that the entire recorded picture of my recordings displays in only...
The Toshiba D-R560 is a mid-grade DVD recorder designed as Toshiba claims to "compliment some of todays best high-definition televisions". More specifically the D-R560 is designed with simple features to offer a cheaper solution for consumers looking at high-definition DVD playback support. The D-R560 features full video upconversion to HD through the HDMI inputs (720p/1080i/1080p), and an...

Everything I wanted to get digital TV signal
Strengths: Easy to setup, good tuner that picks up analog and digital channel off cable, clear and sharp upconverter for DVD, support multiple format of DVD disc for recording.
Weakness: Must turn off machine to record a pre-scheduled program, cannot record and watch other channels concurrently, difficult to read remote under low light.
I bought this machine to pick up digital channels off my basic cable services so that I can take advantage of my HDTV ready TV. This machine has built-in tuner to pick up NTSC (analog), ASTC (digital) and clear QAM signals. With its DVD recording capability, this machine acts like a VCR recorder that is capable of recording up to 8 hours of programming. Clearly, it is not as good as a DVR (e.g.,...
