Strengths: Tuners, recording, HDMI, menu
Weakness: The electricity went out for about 5 seconds and it lost the time. Why can't they put in a battery or capacitor to keep the time??? No backlight or glow-in-the-dark remote.
I owned the previous model with the silver casing and it 'looked' more expensive than this model. That's not a huge factor, but this one does look a little cheaper. Overall, I'm happy with it. However, I would expect a little more from the "top-of-the-line" Sony model.
Strengths: Multi-use product, HD tuner built in, up convert HDMI output for easy to connect.
Weakness: None found
Unit was on backorder, was worth waiting for, I am pleased with the performance of the recorders. Quite a choice of media to use. With a VCR & DVD it eliminated one old VCR.
Strengths: easy to program
Weakness: somewhat vague on how to connect to my system
This DVD recorder is very easy to use. The copy quality is very good with clear and bright picture sharpness. The programming options available allow me to choose the right length for the media I am copying. thank you

Great product, but mine was DEFECTIVE
Strengths: Great tuner, full-featured, upconversion
Weakness: DEFECTIVE unit, can't record to DVD-RAM, coax RF out seems non-functional on NTSC TVs
I purchased this DVD recorder/VCR fNEW, not open box or refurb, and it was DEFECTIVE. The signal processor for the DVD player was defective. ANY DVD, whether burned by me or a purchased movie, showed "digital artifacts" in the picture--black dots, yellow or green pixel-looking marks. When viewing an all-black screen on a DVD, it was like watching the opening of The Matrix with all the green...
