Dual-Layer Media Support: Yes
Strengths: Slim profile, easy to use, 1080p upconversion
Weakness: None
This is a reasonably priced 1080p upconverting DVD player for standard DVDs which has an easy to use interface, with a low profile if you have space constraints, and HDMI/component/S-video output and optical/coaxial digital audio output.
Strengths: Simple, easy of use, plug & play, HDMI
Weakness: Too simple, single disk tray.
I was trying to purchase Sony PS3 80GB version for watching Blu-Ray disc; however, all the stores are out of it. After comparing this Sony DVD player and Samsung DVD players (1080P upconversion) on shopper's report. I decided go for this model. Everything works great but not enough for me to "wow". Still looking for a Blu-ray DVD player in the future.
Strengths: Good Upconverting
Weakness: Lack of easily changing resolution modes
I like the new slim design. I also like the eject button you now push down not in to eject so player does not slide around. The Picture quality is very good and Upcoverting to 1080P does not add grain or artifacts to picture. The only complaint I have is because of all the different aspect ratios of DVD's you need to go into setup menu in order to change it so you are not watching a stretched...
Strengths: Addresses basic DVD player features, connectivity and performance needed for progressive scan and 1080p upconversion. Sony build quality.
Weakness: Menu could be a little more user friendly at setup.
For a budget DVD player, this product meets our needs to supply HD content via HDMI connection to a 720p LCD HDTV in a den area. It has a sleek look and feel and provides quality AV as expected for a Sony.
Strengths: Compatible with Sony Bravia HDTV engine. HDMI output connects directly to HDTV. Easy to set up and operate High quality video and audio
Weakness: None to date.
After comparing several brands (Sony, Panasonic, Samsung) of upconvert DVD players, I chose this model primarily because of its direct compatibility with my Sony HDTV (KDL 52W3000 LCD) and its similar pricing to other models. I wasn't quite ready for BlueRay but I needed a reasonably priced single-disk upconvert to replace a really poor quality GoVideo combo DVD/VCR player. This unit hit my...
Strengths: Price, picture quality, has a 6 disc memory.
Weakness: No HDMI cable included.
Using this with a 46" Sony Bravia 1080P LCD. Newer DVDs look almost HD, but older DVDs from the 90's look extremely grainy, but it's no fault of the DVD player, but due to the picture quality of the DVDs. By default it stretches full-screen DVDs to widescreen, but all you have to do is change the setting so it will show movies in their proper aspect ratio. HDMI cable (not included) is a must for...
Strengths: The picture is spectacular
Weakness: None
This DVD player took seconds to hookup with the HDMI cable to the tv, and the picture from it is awsome. We were using a regualar progressive scan DVD player with our new TV and decided that since we had a HD tv, that we should get a DVD player to go with it. We weren't sure if we should get an upscaling DVD player, or a true HD DVD player, but due to the cost difference, we went with the...
Strengths: Easy to set-up. Nice looking, quiet and does a nice job of upconverting most videos. Audio capability was above expectation.
Weakness: The upconverter set at 1080p tended to pixelate lower-quality (non-commercial) DVD output
For a modestly priced upconverter this SONY-NS700H has to be a tad ahead of the herd. There are lots to choose from in this price range and I was reluctant to choose SONY because of past customer service difficulties on earlier SONY purchases but... this item performed fine out-of-the-box, was extremely easy to setup and produces a sharp clear (almost hi-def) image on my HDTV with any quality...
Strengths: picture quality, value for cost, Sony name
Weakness: user manual
I am really impressed with the quality of picture, especially noticeable when upconverting non-HD DVD's. We have a 46 inch Sony BRAVIA HDTV and the DVD works wonderfully in this configuration. Also, the sound is very nice, both through the HDTV or through our Panasonic surround sound system. The user manual is not the most user friendly, but adequate. Overall, I am very pleased with this DVD and...
The DVP–NS700 is an upconverting DVD player that provides an image supported by Sony’s Precision Cinema Progressive Technology and Precision Drive 3 System, giving it the ability to receive a true image from the source. Sony has also upscaled this player to 1080p through the HDMI connection, and equipped it with a video 12 bit/108 Mhz DAC. Sony equipped the DVP-NS700 with a bundle of...

Strengths: HDMI for LCD TV monitor and traditional connections for old analog TVs.
Weakness: None
This is a well designed dvd player. It offers many ways to connect to home stereo components. The manual is eay to read if you should have any problems in setup. As a side note to future purchasers this model is identical to the one sold by Costco DVP-NS601HP for the same price. You won't regret this a a purchase if you can't afford a Blue ray DVD player yet!
