Strengths: Multifunctional, price, dimentsions, reliable
Weakness: Remote (but for this price?)
I guess it is classic model for usual customer. I had previous model and I was satisfied with it, but I bought a new TV and I need a new HD player. I use this unit and for DivX and for other sources and I have no problems with sound or image.
Strengths: Plays almost everything, upconvert to 1080P
Weakness: remote controller is the weakest link in Philips DVD line.
Very slim form factor, nice design. Plays any media, USB connector accepted hard drive formated in FAT32 with external power without any problem, Easy to make region free. remote control design is terrible, looking to substitute it with any other.... recommended buy. DIVX dream play...
Strengths: Can play via USB, HDMI support, Divx support
Weakness: None I found till now
This one has a USB port on the front which is a great advantage. Although its not mentioned that it can play Divx format from USB, but it does pretty well. The display is excellent. The remote has a USB Button, which toggles between the USB device and the DVD. It has big display considered others in the same range. Another advantage is that it supports NTSC as well as PAL system. Also some sites...
Strengths: Plays everything, 1080p upconversion, USB 2.0, HDMI
Weakness: Doesn't support long file names over USB :(
I was about to buy an Oppo 970HD when I heard about this new Philips player. Found it at BB for $69, so I took a chance. I'm glad I did. PROS: cheap, upconverts to 1080p, HDMI output, very good picture quality (Mediatek chipset), black finish, slim, plays everything (including NTSC/PAL), USB 2.0 port (media must be formatted as FAT32), plays divx files, supports Dolby-Digital and DTS passthru...
Strengths: Plays tons of video and audio formats, including divx and divx ultra, will read just about any disc thrown at it, has USB port to read files, cheap, nice black styling, HDMI, etc.
Weakness: No S-Video, no optical audio port, cheap remote, slow start up time, only remembers last position of five last movies played, divx subtitles have strange background
This is easily the best budget DVD player available, period. It's available at some retailers as low as $60. It plays all my divx files, divx ultra, MP3, and more from just about any type of disc (CD-R, DVD+R, etc.). Additionally, there is a USB port on the front (despite hype, it only transfers at USB 1.1 rates, not 2.0) that will read flash drives and some hard drives. It's a great option to...
Strengths: Support 1080p and has USB input for DIVX files.
I have a Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD TV. Before I bought this DVD player I have a 480p DVD/VCR combo. The image quality is poor when I play DVD on it. But I don't want spend couple hundred dollars on blu-ray dvd player. DVP5982 got a pretty good price along with a USB input. I have been searching this kind of dvd player in the market for quite some time and this is just I have been waiting for. The...
Strengths: USB 2.0,PLAYS DIVX , AVI ....ALL FORMATS ALL MEDIA I TESTED. 1080p UP-CONVERSION QUICK LOADING, SLEEK LOOKING CHEAP---$69.00
Weakness: REMOTE FLIMSY.POOR BATTRIES TAKE A WHILE TO SET THE OPTIONS UP.
I HAD THIS FOR OVER A WEEK NOW AND ITS THE BEST YEAH; THE BATTRIES THAT GO IN REMOTE ARE REALLY CHEAPASI WAS TRYING TO OPEN IT ONE OF THE BATTRIES BENT.. I DID NOT DAMAGE BUT POOR MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION.... IT LOADS ALL DVD I HAD DIV X AVI AND ALL THE MEDIA FROM DVD+R TO DVD-RAM ALL OF IT. USB IS GREAT.PUT YOUR AVI FILES ON FLASH DRIVE AND RENAME IT TO 6 LETTER NAME AND PLAY IT ON DVD PLAYER.QUICK...
Strengths: Slick lightweight design, USB port, many formats accepted, ability to upgrade Firmware, upconversion to 1080p
Weakness: Remote - no Eject button and very basic, slow operations (power, eject etc.)
I bought this DVD player to upconvert to 720P signal which my new digital TV can take. The picture quality is OK, I can not make out huge difference between 480p and 720p on my TV but 720P signal is little better then using component video which gives me 480p. There is no eject button on the remote. Both power and eject operations takes little while, in particular eject takes @ 30 seconds to...
Strengths: DIVX, cheap, easily convert to region free player and USB port.
Weakness: Slow loading, Cheap remote. Remember last play on only one disc.
This player play almost everything and you can search the web to teach you how to on most stuff, region free, Hard drive tricks, etc. So far I know you can't play MP4 and real Media. If you want to play all you downloads, just convert them to DIVX. Buy this affordable player to fulfill most needs.
Philips DVP 5982/37 DVD player is a model with the basics covered. With high definition video upscaling of 720p, 1080i and 1080p, a clear and crisp picture can be expected. Other image enhancements are supported by progressive scan and what Philips calls Smart Picture. The audio produced by this model uses Dolby Digital surround sound with alternate settings found in Smart Sound. (Ultra bass,...

Philip DVP5982/27 DVD player
Strengths: 1080p upconvert, HDMI support, USB port
Weakness: Remote, not showing long file name
Great player. Easily make it region free. Play avi (MPEG1, MPEG2, DivX3~ 6) files from external hard driver directly, you need to format the hard drive into Fat 32. The picture is so clear when using HDMI cable upconverting an ordinary DVD to 720P or 1080i. Haven’t tried 1080P because my LCD TV doesn’t support 1080P. But the HDMI cable is not included, you need buy one. It doesn’t have...
