Strengths: A beautiful little machine. Nice and compact and fits almost anywhere. Picture and clarity are great and this little gadget is so light.
Weakness: None
This DVD player replaces a Toshiba which cost fifty percent more and didn't play as well as my new Philips DVP 3982. As a non-techie type, the set up was a snap since it took me less than 15 minutes to hook everything up. I have played numerous dvd movies and the picture quality and clarity are absolutely wonderful. This is my first Philips purchase and it performs better than other well known...
Strengths: Size, multi format, easy setup, easy interface, rock steady playback.
Weakness: I can't find any, yet.
A great little player The Philips DVP3982 is a very good player. I have played everything I have and it played them all. Philips has a firmware upgrade for this player. After I upgraded it, (witch only took two minutes) the player was the a little better when it came to the DVD tray, (a little faster opening) HDMI was better after the upgrade. I read that people are having problems with “Disc...
Strengths: who knows
Weakness: tried to play many different discs and keep getting "no disc" message
Obviously this unit is broken and never worked from the manufacturer. Even though it was "only" $50.00 I expected it to work out of the box. I will never buy a Phillips product again. Nothing against 6Ave. They have always been very nice and helpful and the prices are almost always right, as long as you know what you are buying. Now I have to waste another couple of hours of my life to return it...
Philips DVP 3982/37 DVD player is a model with the basics covered. With high definition video upscaling of 720p, 1080i and 1080p, a clear and crisp picture can be expected. Other image enhancements are supported by progressive scan and what Philips calls Smart Picture. The audio produced by this model uses Dolby Digital surround sound with alternate settings found in Smart Sound. (Ultra bass,...

Terrific DVD Player and Then Some
Strengths: Compact size, good remote control, quiet, and plays an assortment of video formats.
Weakness: When disc door is opened, you must slide the DVD onto the tray. In other words, door doesn't open all the way out compared to other DVD players.
I purchased this Philips DVP3982 DVD Player from Circuit City this past summer. It plays standard DVD's and up-converts them to fill the flat screen TV, as long as you use the HDMI cable hook-up. DVD's will play near Hi-definition this way. As a bonus, this Philips player also plays discs that use the .MP4 and .avi video formats. I can take my standard DVD and using the PC, convert them to MP4...
