Additional Specifications
Dual-Layer Media Support: Yes
Media Formats: VHS
Digital Audio Optical Out: Yes
Strengths: LOTS of Options
Weakness: Timer recorder freezes up, not reliable for time shifting, complicated, very poor customer relations, won't convert digital TV signal to analog VHS for recording.
This unit had great potential for replacing my VHS for timeshifting with my outside antenna. Unfortunately, it has come to the point that I must unplug the power cord each time I want to time shift, otherwise the unit freezes up-locks up and won't record. We have missed a lot of shows we planned on seeing later because of this flaw. Panasonic is totally uncommitted in helping us with this...
Strengths: Picture Quality; Build Quality; 1080P Up Conversion; Lots of Inputs; Large Clock Display; User Friendly
Weakness: Size (slightly bigger than the Sony, Samsung, and LG but smaller than a Toshiba).
I had Sony's comparable RDR-VXD655 for a week before comparing the DMR-EZ48VK. Immediately, I noticed the quality of the build, which is solid and not flimsy as with the Sony, Samsung, or LG units. - To schedule a recording is very easy. Just press "Schedule" on the remote control and select channel, time, frequency (daily, weekly, M-F, etc.), and press OK. - I only wish the inputs on the front...
Strengths: clarity of video from hdmi upconversion on dvd playback; ease of converting vhs tapes onto dvd
Weakness: takes a few seconds to turn on, so if you need to record something immediately(like a funny commercial),you might miss a small segment; this is not an issue if you have Viera Link - a Panasonic TV
this is the exact machine as the EZ485VK, except this one doesn't come with an HDMI cable; their instruction manuals are one and the same; both are easy to operate, and the recorded images are very clear on dvd, fairly clear on vhs; would definitely recommend the unit to anyone looking to upconvert dvd movies, and looking for a vhs player to play or record videotapes
Strengths: Can record onto dvd or vcr, watch both dvds and tapes, watch one program while recording another.
Weakness: I have been unable to set up the Viera link properly, although I've tried a couple of times.
I think it's a great dvd recorder / vhs recorder. Setting it up was relatively easy, although it is evidently capable of advanced functions. I've also formatted my dvds on it very quickly.
Strengths: none
Weakness: difficult to understand the directions, locked up, destroyed a older tv.
You don't want to own one of these. I can't believe how difficult it was to record, never could figure out how to produce a menu on the recorded dvd, only could put on 2 hrs on at dvd from a 6 hr vhs movie. VERY slow to start up, very slow to change channels, and finally, it locked up completely, wouldn't turn off, even when unplugged and given time to "reset". Then the third time it locked up,...
Strengths: good ergonomics in the remote; top quality recording
Weakness: WILL NOT RECORD DIGITAL BROADCAST TO VCR!!!
Help me out here, folks. Am I the only person left who timeshifts with the VCR? I do it every day. A DVD-RW works too, (I'm using that now) but it takes five clicks thru three menus to format a disk; which you have to do before recording. Much less convenient than VCR. I fear I'll have to return the product (are you listening Best Buy?)
Strengths: VCR and DVD combo. Strong build. Built-in tv tuner. HDMI and usb.
Weakness: none yet
Strong build but heavy. The seems like a good quality dvd/vcr combo built player. Comes with usb and sd card inputs. This dvd player also comes with a HDMI output.
THE GOOD: Outstanding DVD-recording quality, with a best-in-class LP mode; flexible recording speed; chasing playback with DVD-RAM discs; USB port and SDHC card slot for playback of MP3, DivX, and JPEG files; upscales DVD to 1080p; VHS-to-DVD dubbing for home recordings. THE BAD: VHS operations are a bit slow; expensive; no Blu-ray compatibility. THE BOTTOM LINE: Outstanding recording quality,...

A very good Recorder with a lot of features
Strengths: It is very easy to use and setup, it has a lot of features, and it has a lot of convenient ports.
Weakness: In order to select a drive, you have to search for it, using one button, instead of having one button for each drive.
I purchased this unit about 1 month ago, and I really like it. I didn't have any problems with it yet. The picture quality is great, and it records all of my shows nicely. This unit does have a digital tuner, which allows you to watch digital channels on your TV. The remote has a very nice design to it, and is very easy to use. The front USB port is very convenient, and can be used to save...
