Strengths: Large hard drive, high speed transfer to DVD, firewire & PC card slots
Weakness: Doesn't record to DVD+R or +RW/-RW
This is my first DVR. I was originally considering a DVD recorder with VCR (a Sony) but after a price drop and reading a good review in a magazine, I decided to get the Panasonic. I'm glad I did. The 160GB hard drive is a definite advantage. I'm primarily transferring my VHS and Hi8 tapes to DVD. Recording has been as easy as a VCR plus I'm able to do some simple editing before burning. I can add...
Strengths: Unit has a 160 gig hard drive, plenty of space for recording TV programs at high quality. TV guide onscreen makes recording from TV very easy.
Weakness: Menu navigation isn't that great. Panasonic has done a better job on some of there other DVD recorders.
I have had been using the Panasonic DMR-E95HS for a couple of months. This is a good DVD recorder for recording TV programs, and more. Since my first Panasonic DVD recorder purchase, I've purchased 2 more units. The Panasonic DMR-E95HS was the 2nd recorder I purchased. The first one was a Panasonic DMR-E100HS, which I like better. Both units have the flexibility to record on the built in hard...
Strengths: Functional DVR with good VCR - like programming features. TV Guide programming works well.
Weakness: no RW DVD access other than DVD-RAM
I finally broke down and bought a DVR. Have listened to "Tivo" fans for a long time regarding the benefits of "disk" recording, however I just could never get over the big brother aspects of Tivo including the concerns that were exemplified by the Super Bowl fiasco with Ms. Jackson and her wardrobe malfunction. (Tivo reported the next day on how many households pressed replay for that scene... in...
Strengths: Good brand name, nice size hard drive, firewire port, nice amout of inputs
Weakness: previous models had some features that were not carried over, no 16x9 support
This is my 2nd Panasonic DVD set top recorder. My first was the DMR-HS2. So far its been very easy to use and I haven't encountered any major problems yet. I've recorded at several speeds, XP is best of course and SP is decent. Editing is simple, you can cut out portions or split a video at a certain point. I've unloaded some programs from my DVR to the hard drive to eventually record to DVD-R. I...
Strengths: Has hard drive, can high speed transfer to dvd
Weakness: Earlier model you can only use dvd-RAM not RW
I have the first series of the DMR-E95HS that had a 120gig hard drive .This is plenty of storage but you can only transfer to Dvd ram or Dvd R discs . I think the record and playback picture Quality on EP mode is good . AS i said i have the first series of this model and the Manual that came with this takes a good while to navigate through . Maybe with the later versions the manual is a little...

Great for archiving home movies
Strengths: Ease of use, picture quality
Weakness: complicated menus
Purchased primarily for archiving my home movies on dvd. Have recorded 20+ hours of video footage from vhs, 8 mm and digital sources. Using the best quality setting allows 60 minutes of footage per dvd. Picture quality is superb. You cant tell the difference between the original and the dvd copy. Editing the original video is a snap. You can omit the footage you don't want...re-arrange the rest,...
