Description
Having previously courted business users with its 9300 and 9500 Communicator series devices, Nokia has announced the E61, the manufacturer's first monoblock style smartphone to integrate a QWERTY thumbboard. Announced along side the E60 and E70 smartphones, the E61 is Nokia's first entry into a breed of devices popularized by the RIM BlackBerry and which has been growing increasingly popular - evidenced by the recent introduced of the Windows Mobile powered Motorola Q. Sporting a broad range of connectivity options, the Nokia E61 is not only fitted with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and WCDMA 2100 Mhz, but also incorporates Wi-Fi 802.11b, Bluetooth 1.2 with support for up to 6 concurrent connections, Infrared and USB 2.0. Furthermore, the device includes a miniSD card slot for expanding its 75 MB of non-volatile memory, all of which is contained within measurements of 117 x 70 x 14 mm and 144 g. Unlike all other previous devices based on the Series 60 platform, the E61 features a QVGA screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and 16M colour depth. Fitted with an ambient light sensor, the display resides just above two soft keys, a five-way navigational pad and the QWERTY thumbboard of the device, a design first for Nokia. Also focusing heavily on messaging capabilities, the E61 will be offering support for basic e-mail via POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP, as well as more advanced solutions including Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, BlackBerry, Visto and Seven. Also, the E61 supports push-to-talk and VoIP along with additional voice dialing functionality and recording. Furthermore, the Nokia E61 includes several business-oriented functions such as the ability to integrate the device into an enterprise framework allowing IT administrators to carry out application management as well as remote locking and wiping of device data.

Strengths: Great design, easy to use
Weakness: None
Having finally seen the E61, I can confidently predict that this will be the must-have executive gadget for 2006. If it works as well as Nokia promises, and the signs are good, then our friends from Finland will have a hit on their hands as big as Motorola's RAZR. Moreover, with all the ho ha about Blackberry's patent dispute case, quite a few companies have started to consider alternative...
Strengths: EXCELLENT PHONE!!
Weakness: NONE
THIS PHONE IS EXCELLENT! THE BATTERY LIFE IS LONG, USER INTERFACE IS EXCEPTIONAL, STABLE SYSTEM, EVERYTHING IS GREAT! JUST NEEDS A LITTLE WHILE TO GET USED TO THE MENUS AND BUTTONS, APART FROM THAT, THE PHONE WILL DO WONDERS AND MIRACLES FOR DAILY PHONE USE, WEB BROWSING, TEXT MESSAGING, RSS FEEDS, PLAYING MP3 FILES..ETC.
Strengths: The screen, Wifi, presence of the keyboard, quad band, size.
Weakness: Typing not as fast as 6800/e70; missing some small features (timed profiles), doesn't seem to be quick or intuitive as the Palm OS. (But it seems like Palm is not really trying anymore.)
I searched for quite a while before taking the plunge with the e61. I had a Nokia 6800 and a Palm T3 and both were on their last legs so I had to make a switch. Overall I am very happy. The keys on the keyboard are closer together than on the 6800 so typing is slightly slower but I expect it will improve some with use. The screen and the wifi however are amazing. I think $40/month for unlimited...
Strengths: Excellent phone, easy to handle, very stong reception, just AWESOME
Weakness: while talking not loud enough, even on the loudest setting sometimes it's hard to hear the other party.
I think Nokia is the best brand out there if we talk about cell phones. They make very reliable and easy to handle, quality cell phones, I'd not buy any other brand. I owned other brands before but I always came back to Nokia.

Thin is still in, but those of us who wanted a sleek and slim design in a smartphone, especially one with a QWERTY keyboard were out of luck until the Motorola Q came out on Verizon a few months back. What if Windows Mobile isn't to your liking, or you prefer a GSM world phone to Verizon's US-only offering? You were out of luck until Nokia surprised us with the sexy and capable E61 this summer....

A Very Stable Nokia E61
Strengths: Solid design. Slim. Packed with features. A very stable OS.
Weakness: Number pad layout is a little difficuly to get used to. No camera. The voice recorder gets in the way (its on the side of the phone). There is no way to disable it or atleast I couldn't.
Unlike the HP and TREO or Windows Mobile Phones, this phone has excellent phone reception. This is infact a phone + pda. Nokia certainly paid attention to detail and unlike others which concentarate on the pda features and lack good phone reception or features, nokia has done an excellent job on both.
